cooler for 9750 oced 2.8ghz

Recommended Posts

now that i finally managed to overclock my 9750 its running fine but when i do stress testing its starting to go above 71c right now i currently have a scythe shurieken on it which is a decent low profile cooler.. i also have a ocz vendetta 2 laying around that i could use.. but my guess is i need some serious cooling.. any recommendations that are affordable? or should i save my money run my phenom to death.. and get a better processor when it dies which is acctually an option to me, cause it gives me a real reason to upgrade.

In games so far its staying below 71 c its just on prime 95 it gets hot.. also should i leave the scythe on it if u think i should just run with what i got or switch it to the vendetta 2, the reason im using the scythe is because with my vendetta.. i cant use my side fan but i guess thats still not a huge loss because i still have a intake fan and exhaust fan. the only think im really worried about dieing is my video card and harddrives.. but since its just my processor getting hot i dont think its possible that it could hurt my video card or harddrives.

No matter what your running, you still need a serious cpu cooler!

If you were to upgrade, will you still be using the same cpu socket?

Thermalright TRUE Black 120 Rev.C CPU Cooler

Heck, when it's lapped, and you use 2 fans (push & pull), I think it's the best cpu cooler on the market!

I just ordered another one!

if i was gunna spend that kinda green wouldnt i be better off to get a lower end water cooling kit? for like 20 extra bucks?

like this one CoolIT Domino A.L.C. CPU Cooler, http://www.crazypc.com/products/coolit-domino-938500.html i really like that and i guess it would fit in my case

Yes, water cooling would be better!

But call me a scardy cat, cause I saw 2 different cases (not done by me), that had leaks, and lets just say, they both only turned on once!......never more!!! LOL

But thats just me!

yea thats my fear... that ill get a cooling kit that leaks all over all my componets.. how much is that trueblack better than a vendetta 2?because i guess i could sand down my vendetta 2 a little to have a finish like that.. and my vendetta has direct heat pipe technology and im always on a low budget hahahah, idk if the water cooling risk is worth it

im actually in the same boat as you..

Im looking to get the Corsair H50 which is just as good as the true, and better in some tests.

all for about the same price. 63 after mail in rebate, but then factor in the fans you will need to purchase if you get a TRUE so the Corsair H50 comes in cheaper.

Also factor noise into the equation, the H50 fits onto your existing rear 120mm fan so no added noise to your system.

Either way, great cooling capabilities.

By the way, just a little side note: The H50 is "basically" guaranteed not to leak.

Sounds good!

Good luck to the both of you!

That OCZ Vendetta 2 should be good till you get your water cooling up and running!

Since it a direct contact heatpipe, I don't think you should try lapping it.

But it will be better than what you have on it right now!

i installed my ocz vendetta 2 has tamed the heat beast this things way better than i remember it being.. for a second i thought i blew a single core or somthing because when i ram prime95 in place large ftts the first time it said one core had failed i almost . :( but it looks good now musta been some kinda random glitch, is it even possible to blow out one core and not the other 3?

If it failed it's not stable. I tend to use Intel Burn Test these days since Prime doesn't stress the CPU anywhere near as much as Linpack does.
