GabrielT Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I was given an older sony vio desktop that didn't work so i tore it open and fixed it. Since then it has been a few weeks and it has been my experiment rig. It has a P4 at a stock 1.6ghz. I wanted to oc so i pulled off the stock cooler before i remembered I was out of thermal paste. I live in the middle of nowhere so I asked my dad if he had anything in a garage that would work. He suggested Dielectic Silicone Compound. Dielectric silicone is used to transfer heat out of ignitions on cars so it seemed like a plausible choice. I dabbed alittle on the cpu clipped it down and has been running for 3 hours now cooler than before. I even OCed it to 2.1ghz and has been running rock solid stable on a stock cooler. I will update after a few hours of burnin but I suspect all will be well because Dielectric silicone is supposed to never dry. If you think this is dangerous or ill advisable please speak up.
