jtltoy Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Hi, I'm having a problem logging onto my PC. It will bootup to the welcome screen, then it says I have to activate XP before I can log in. I already activated it and have been using this PC for a couple of months now. Anyway, it asks if I would like to activate it now. If I click on yes, it goes to the activate screen and there it says "Windows has already been activated, click OK to exit". I click OK and it automatically logs off and returns to the welcome screen and tells me I have to active it. If I click NO, I don't want to activate it, it logs off and goes to the welcome screen and tells me I have to activate it. This is a legal copy of Windows XP, I have the disc and I have the key. This problem occurred one day out of the blue. It worked fine for a half of day, then the plug was accidentally pulled out. When I plugged it back in and started it up, this happened. I don't want to reinstall, because then I will lose all of me files. Does anyone have any suggestions? Oh, I also tried "safe mode" but it still won't let me log on. Onion Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Do you have another computer? I would just backup all the files, do a fresh install, and then restore everything.
jtltoy Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Seems like that is going to be the only way.
Hyper Threaded Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Have you tried a repair install? Try that before you go and format.
