This is exactly why you shouldn't use soap on the tubing to make it slide over the fittings. What you should be doing is boiling a pot of water, then dip the end of the tubing into the water. This softens the end of the tubing up making it easy to slide over the fittings.

 

Yep. Next time I'll use astroglide.

 

Lesson learnt. I used needle nosed pilers, jammed them in the tube to stretch it out a little and it fit fine.
