Some Help On Overclocking

Rockwall

Recommended Posts

Hi, i haven't found much on overclocking with the specific ram nor motherboard for the AMD Phenom X3 8650. So far ive overclocked it to 2.680 Ghz, with memory running at 385mhz (DDR2) and 5 5 5 15. Once i got over that it wont boot up and I have to disconnect the power supply a couple of times to get it to finally boot. And when i go to windows CPU-Z says my cpu is running back at stock settings 2.3 ghz when bios will say 2.760 GHZ. So far ive only just tried increasing the FSB, everything else is on auto. I dunno if i want to mess with the ram since i havent had much experience with it, nor do i want to have to reset my bios settings incase i screw it up. I was wondering if someone could give me some settings and ram timings i could set to get this cpu to 3.0 ghz if possible.

Thanks

I've got my HT Ratio at x6 and my FSB freq at 245. I have it up to 2.82 ghz so far. Any more than that and it gets all goofy. I'm not sure you can get an 8650 to 3.0ghz. I've heard of it, but rarley. There is a way to unlock the 4th core though. here is a link i found..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGKBXgbmCOk I dont know if the same rules apply with the first gen phenoms.

Im pretty sure the Original Phenoms were not renowned for there Overclocking ability. But i Know you may be able to give it more Voltage to get some more overclock But im not sure given I havent had a first generation phenom. I'd check out damiens CPU ID and make sure you keep the HT close to that. I belive the Stock setting is 1200 MHZ and it normally goes + or - 200 and good. Raise up you voltage a bit and see what you can do with it. For now Here is the Factory Chip settings

CPU-World Link That will give you a base line starting point.

Good luck.

I think you will strugle to get to 3Ghz with that chip although it has been done the highest ive seen is 3.1ghz. As boinker said above the old phenoms are a pain to overclock especialy without acc or nvcc. A 2.87Ghz is a very respectable overclock for that chip if you do manage to get to 3Ghz let us know would be intrested to see your settings.
