I've been out of the market for a while now and not too sure which equipment is best to pick. I have recently gotten into video editing and photo editing and my laptop cannot keep up with it. I am looking to build a desktop to get multi-tasking and some encoding power.

This is the rig I've picked out so far, can you please tell me what you think?

I am trying to keep cost as close to $600 as possible. Thanks for any input.

Don't forget the graphics card!

Are you buying 8 of each. Total at $4,663.44 is just a tad over $600.

You could get the OCZ 700 PSU for less right now. Your motherboard is the non-raid edition. I wonder if video and photo editing benefits from RAID-0? I think the boards are within 10 bucks of each other AR.

Just something that you wouldn't want to forget: The operating system.

What one is it and are you including that in your <$600 system?

The lowest you can get Vista at is ~100 in OEM form, I think XP pro is a bit less. If you buy it from newegg there is a trick that gets you $10 off of vista...I don't know how legal it is (I did by mistake...) so I won't be posting it here.

Good point, I forgot to mention that I already have Vista Ultimate x64 so I will be installing it onto the system. I guess the video card I picked is gone now. I will just use a 7300GT that i added to the list now.

Syngensmyth, where is the OCZ 700 cheaper?

How does the Phenom's stack up against the q6600's? I was looking at a couple of local stores today and they has some clearance phenom PC's for around what I was going to spend. I'm not afraid to build the system myself, just wondering how they compare to each other. Thanks for the input so far everyone.

EDIT: Also forgot to ask if I should just look at Dual Core or stick with Quad. I'm figuring quad since I will be using it for encoding, but not sure if anything utilizes all 4 cores yet?

Whoo, sorry. I didn't click through ... 53.99 free ship ... I'm buying one, too.

That is a great price, wish you had a link for it.

I have an extra $100 now and I have narrowed down my search to 2 rigs:

Which if these would be best for video/audio/picture editing and encoding?

Custom built Rig:

Or this HP Pavilion A6544F:

Both rigs come within $5 of each other after figuring in shipping and taxes. Thanks for any help.

That is the PSU you found on Newegg and is in your wish list. When I clicked through to the product page there is a rebate that didn't show on the wish list.

Only problems I see with this is the lack of OC ability in bios and I can't tell if there is a video card slot.
