Stock Chipset Fan Question For NF4-Ultra D

Hey Guys,

How's it going? Well I just have a quick question here.

My chipset fan over the past 4 days has been going buck-wild. As of right now, I'm on my UT NF4 Ultra-D board with the stock fan. Not sure why the sudden jump but she's definitely barking at me.

I decided to go ahead and purchase the Evercool VC-RE from SVC, but my question is this....

How worried should I be in the mean time while i'm waiting for my replacement. Only reason I ask is becuase I'm at school and really can't afford too much downtime. I occasionally shut down my rig down at night, but over the past 4 days unless I'm home in my apartment, I've turned it off.

I've tossed up a small 12 second mp3 of the sudden noise, and obviously if you have the time to take a quick listen, I'd greatly appreciate it.

You can hear a steady noise then a sudden jump. That's normally what she's been doing whenever I load up cs. I am fairly positive it's my chipset fan becuase i've disconnected nearly every fan including my video card and only left my Heatsink and Chipset fan running. I put my ear right down to my Zalman and didn't hear much noise so assumed it was the chipset.

Stoopid Fan *i just used megaupload to host the mp3.

As always, I'd appreciate any help.

Rob

sort of sounds like the same problem i had with my stock chipset cooler on my nF4 UT sli-dr board. the fan would just start grinding. I replaced it with the evercool VC-RE and havent had any problems since, however I am going to be switching to the Thermalright HR05-SLI very soon.

Doesn't sound bad to me; the fan is simply spinning up to provide better cooling due to the higher stress on the chipset.

The VC-RE is a better fan and should be quieter as well; I don't see any issues with running the stock fan until the new one arrives.

Generally when the stock fans die they start making grinding noises and/or just quit spinning.

i wish i had a sound clip of what my stock chipset cooler sounded like when it started to go. it would start making the grinding noise and then stop and then start up again. it was quite loud and noticeable.
