Eiolon Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I am upgrading from a 3700+ (single core) to a 4800+ (dual core). Is there anything special that I need to do in regards to the motherboard or is it a matter of switching the processors out? I plan on reformatting regardless if that is necessary. Guest Radiohead Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 You should be good to go. I'd first install the CPU (might not be a bad idea to set all CPU parameters in bios to default before shutting down for the last time with the old processor, make sure ACPI is enabled in bios. Install the neew CPU boot er up and download and install the AMD dual core optimizer driver and you're away to the races.

Though its not necessary initially to reformat, when doing a major upgrade like swapping out cpu and upgrading it, i would definitely consider reinstalling windows down the line..... Also you might want to install this How to install the AMD X2 drivers, hotfix, the correct way. Logan
