WintersFury Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Ok, I can't figure out what's causing the problem I'm currently having for the life of me. Got my computer up to 355fsb no problems, cpu is a stock volts and NB is at 1.65. Going over 355fsb requires 1.7v nb which is no problem. However at that point I start getting boot issues. If I try and reboot from windows or exit the bios the computer goes into a reboot cycle where it reboots (I hear a subtle click and my cd-rom light starts blinking) right before it would beep and show the post screen. And even when booting from a cold boot it's a roll of the dice if it'll boot right away, restart a few times then boot or just stay in an endless restart loop. I tried upping the cpu vid as I thought perhaps it needed some more juice, no dice there. Tried the same with the NB and still nothing. So I'm quite stumped as to what it is, I have read Raju's guide and have most things set as they were suggested to be set in there. I know my NB is getting pretty toasty at 60+c at load but I don't think that would be causing a problem with booting? Thanks for any help you guys can give
WintersFury Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Ok, update on me being a putz and not checking all the settings. I had to do a clear cmos and my PPM (No idea what it is but everyone says to turn it off) was enabled and pcie was set to 100. Just to test, I disabled PPM and no dice. Turned PCIe back to 101 and it booted fine.
Splave Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I would grab an hr-05 sli Sure you dont need to up the CPU volts yet? And how did you enjoy todays snow storm? gotta love buffalo
WintersFury Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Yeah, I need a HR-05 SLI bad... That Ultra-120 makes it so I wouldn't be able to fit any other NB coolers on the board. Quite sure on the CPU volts. It's sitting at 2.56 taking anything I can throw at it and having no problems. Got the Ultra-120 cause I thought I'd need to up the voltage and now I'm wishing I had got a NB cooler and used my Zalman 7000 or 9500. Oh well, the Ultra-120 is really nice though I do wonder if I have it seated correctly cause it does get to 43-44 under Orthos load  As for the snow, that wasn't bad at all. And seeing how it's the most snow we've gotten all winter I'm not about to complain. EDIT:: Grrrr... Guess that was a fluke getting out of the bios cause it went into it's reboot cycle after rebooting from windows. And is sitting in one again after cold booting it. Later Update Edit:: It seems that in fact the CPU did want more voltage. Wound up giving it +25mV and it boots reliably. Guess it was a good thing to get the monster heatsink. Strange that it would bench and run Orthos with no problems yet have problems booting.
