Hello. Will you help me OC my computer?

I am new at this. I dont want to start a fire.

I am a little afraid I made mistake by ordering this Mother board and did not

realise this was for experts only. That is why I am here.

I want to safely over clock my computer. I do not have any special cooling systems, everything is factory.

After reading on the net, it dawned on me that adjusting my memory speed/clocking in bios is a must.

Could you help me with this, step by step?

What should I make the settings (I mean what values should I use)?

Also, how much can I overclock my cpu?

Do you have any other suggestions?(e.g return the MB to the vendor and get a noob MB).

This is brand new.. I just got it literaly a few hours ago in the mail.

I realise this is alot to ask from the community but could you give me a step by step on what to do when tweaking the bios?

Yes I am a OC idiot. Thanks in advance for any helpfull responses you may throw in my direction.

I am in the same boat as you are but try reading the GUIDE 3 or 4 times. Then check out the database. Then if you still are not sure ask questions.

Guide

Data Base

I'm sure people don't want to teach EVERYBODY how to overclock on a individual basis. When you know a little more then you can ask specifics.

Cheers

Nobody can Teach you how to overclock your system. They all clock differently even if they have simular hardware. You need to read and reread the guide then get started. When you run into something your unsure of then ask about it and you will get some help. Welcome to the street. And be patient learning to overclock a system takes time. A lot of trial and error and reading check the stock speed database and the overclock database for timings on systems with your Ram and board to get started after you have read the guide several times. The fun is in figuring your system out. One more thing You MUST follow the initial build guide when building your system. follow it to the letter or you will have a heck of a time. I also see you have 4 x 512 mb of ram this will make setting up your system and overclocking it even more of a challenge not to mntion that it is Value Ram to boot. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...ial+build+guide

Agreed! You ram is going to be a problem! I would get some 2x1GB! Read the OC guide!

I have read the guide 2x, and believe it or not went throught the entire database.

The guide is chinese and the database contains 2 instances of Kingstone, neither of which are my make/model.

I also noticed almost every post in the db is 2x sticks and not 4x.

I dont need to overclock right now. I can wait till I get new memory.

(any suggestions?)

Without overclocking, will my system run ok at default/auto settings?

This is my main concern.

Thank you for your responses.

Did you booted up at all yet or you writing it from another PC? What are you memory settings? Where did you buy the PC? Did somebody built it for you? Just trying to figure out what is going on! If somebody built you rig that I believe he had a little of a idea what he was doing and you will be fine running the stock settings! :)

Thank you for the response.

I have not yet installed these components. I already have a old pc and thats what Im typing from.

I am in no hurry to put the signature pc together just yet. Just doing research on this resourcefull site.

Infact I picked the PSU after reading forums on this site.

Everything is just sitting here.

Unfortunately Im stuck with the Kingston VALUERAM memory till I can get (afford)

"mushkin eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory".

I guess its not necessary for me to OC just yet. I can wait.

But do you think my ram will even work on stock settings? (50%? 80%?100% chance?)

Im wondering if I should return the MB and get a easier one to deal with.

I read alot of good things about this MB and thats why I got it to begin with but maybe Im in over my head here.

Wait a minute!!! You got me lost! The PC in your signature is the “old” one or the one you trying to put together? If it’s the one you trying to put together than you are trying to install DDR2 (240 pin) Ram into a 939 socket mobo!!! This is not going to work my friend! DDR2 is for AM2 Sockets! :) You need DDR SDRAM (184 pin) Ram for socket 939!

If you are using the board in your sig that memory will not work. It needs to be DDRI not DDRII.

My mistake. I must have linked the wrong thing when I linked that 240 pin memory.

What I meant I would be getting in the FUTURE is....

"mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory"

The SIGNATURE is what I will be deffinetly putting together in the next day or so. I have all those components. (I do have 4x 512mb dual sync 184 pin kingston VALUERAM right now).

Thanks for pointing it out.

So what do you think?

I would start with a minimal build (you can find the link to it in my sig) Two stick of ram in the orange slots! Don’t go all four before you know that it will boot up with the two value ram! Get it stable with two sticks first! Google up the proper memory settings for your ram! Let us know how it works out.
