Shaggy Posted July 14, 2002 Posted July 14, 2002 this may be stupid question, but my bios is fried. Is this due to overclocking or what. I want to keep oc'ing, but if its messing with my mobo I dont want to.
d3bruts1d Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 How do you know your BIOS is fried? And if it is, this is the first time I've heard of this.
Shaggy Posted July 19, 2002 Posted July 19, 2002 My mobo has dual bios, so if a bios goes bad, there isn't any good way of flashing it.
Bosco Posted July 20, 2002 Posted July 20, 2002 just reset it and you should be good to go.
Shaggy Posted July 21, 2002 Posted July 21, 2002 I'd like to think it was that easy, but there are no jumpers to reset the bios, since giga-byte are idiots. They thought there dual-bios technology was sooo great, that they didn't need jumpers.
d3bruts1d Posted July 21, 2002 Posted July 21, 2002 Can you pop out the CMOS battery?
Ronin Posted July 21, 2002 Posted July 21, 2002 We tried removingt he battery and putting it back in but it didnt work. Gigabyte assumes that if one bios goes bad you'll reload a new one onto that so that you'll never need to flash it. Shaggy didnt knowt he first bios was bad though he thought his overclocking was unstable, so he changed the core voltage but the bios didnt save properly so that was the last bios there was. There is no way to just flash it. They didnt make a way to do it, or if there is a way then Im too stupid to find it in the manual. The battery thing didnt work anyway. doesnt matter though, gigabyte is sending him a new board.
d3bruts1d Posted July 21, 2002 Posted July 21, 2002 There are some BIOS updates on the giga web site... you try those? Normally updates to a BIOS will reset it.
Ronin Posted July 21, 2002 Posted July 21, 2002 to update the bios the computer has to be working, with no bios you cant start the computer to put one on, its a catch
d3bruts1d Posted July 21, 2002 Posted July 21, 2002 hrmm... guess Giga is different.. Every bios I've ever had to update, you booted with the updates on a floppy...
Ronin Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 right, you boot with a floopy, how is it gonna update it when there is NO bios, that means it wont goto boot devices or anything, it means the board is pretty much useless.
