Doctor Carta Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Does this seem a little high?Low the vcore or check on the connection between heatsink/cpu die? Thanks http://members.cox.net/doctorcarta/Misc./temp.JPG
sswilson Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Is that at idle or at load? 40 at idle is a bit high. I think my highest on air for idle was around 35.
ReelFiles Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 What does CoreTemp report for Idle/Load? What is your ambient temperature?
mikepellegrini Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I've got a 3700 SanDiego and it does run a fair bit cooler. My vcore is lower - 1.5 volts - but my HSF is less aggressive than yours. Right now with an ambient room temp of 66F (18.8 c) my idle temp is 29c. Load temp with Prime running after 5 minutes is 47c. I dound that the temps went up very quickly after 1.50 volts. I was shooting for 3 GHz on air but just wasn't able to pull it off - at vcores above 1.5 it was running too hot and still wasn't stable. Nor would it run at even 2.95 GHz. But for some strange reason, it's perfectly staable at 2.9 GHz. At 1.45-1.47 vcore it would run fine but in a kind of random fashion, fail Prime at odd intervals. So I played around with the VID until I hit on 1.5 volts as a compromise. If after lowering your vcore, you still have high temps, you might think about reseating your HSF. And you did use Artic Silver? It really does make a difference.
