Redbeaver Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 i'll skip the whole Fahrenheit thing, and shows u mine: idle: SG: 27~29 CT: (0) 34~38 (1) 34~38 load: SG: 42~45 CT: (0) 56~58 (1) 62~66 Thats in celcius. and thats at 1.56~1.58V. i say open up the cpu again, clean it thoroughly, and pop it back. and use alcohol to clean up stuff the last. laserred Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Everything was spotless, I took the CPU out of the plastic shipping pack, didn't touch the IHS, dropped it in the socket, closed the lever, took the Ninja, removed the plastic covering the base, put a BB sized ball of Ceramique on the core, and clamped down the Ninja. I am ordering some AS5 just to see if it helps, even though I doubt it will.
Capt Proton Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 With a Dual Core, I think you would be better off spreading the Thermal Paste, as the core is not in the center anymore. It might help to ensure that the paste spreads out over the entire IHS.
laserred Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 It was spread out to probably 85% of the IHS, is that enough?
Capt Proton Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Probably. The cores are on either side of center, so coverage out almost to the edge all around would make sure. It was just a thought.
laserred Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I dropped the VID to 1.45V, and am re-Priming it to see if it's still stable, I recently dropped down in MHz and didn't try to minimize voltage. We'll see, so far .03V seems to have dropped about 6*F on CoreTemp, and no change on SmartGuardian.
PhoetuS Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 With a Dual Core, I think you would be better off spreading the Thermal Paste Spreading the TIM should only be done on CPUs without an IHS. A dab in the center of the IHS is all you need, then mount the HSF. The HSF will spread the TIM evenly for you. Give it a couple twists and your good to go. as the core is not in the center anymore. Naked Opteron 170 Sure looks like the core is in the center to me... It was spread out to probably 85% of the IHS, is that enough? Yes that should be enough.
