Sharp's 3700+ Overclocking Thread

Recommended Posts

I bought a new CPU, went for the San Diego 3700+ as it meets all my requirements.

There were 2 choices, E4 or E6 core. I went for the E4 core revision.

Many sources state E4 overclocks better.

CPUZ screenchot.

attachment.php?attachmentid=5509&stc=1&d=1164235905

The default Vcore voltage is 1.35v-1.4v

- I set the bios to 1.325v and it shows up as 1.3v.

- In CPUZ and ITE Smartguardian it shows as 1.28v

I will assume its 1.3v.

Why did I lower it?

Wanted to see if it would work with less than 1.35v.

Preliminary testing (I haven't done anything serious yet)

- 3 hours memtest

- 1hr 20min Prime95

- Many hours of CSS

- 3Dmark03

- Everest Home edition

All the above was done with the OCZ EB Platinum PC4000 2x1GB 3-3-2-8 kit running at,

- 200Mhz

- 2-3-2-5

- 2.6v

- Orange slots

That is all so far, I will update this thread as I make progress.

Good choice with the 3700. It's def my favorite single core especially since my old one did well over 3ghz on air with relatively low volts. What stepping is it?

E4 is a great clocker. I can hit 3195 in windows x86 but as soon as I go into clockgen and add one more FSB to 3200 something, instant BSOD =(

Don't use that kind of programs to OC, you can damage your hardware.

Search the forum, if i remember well there's a thread about those programs.

Yeah me too, cpu-z and smartguardian are showing me lower voltages than the bios. Im also working on my 3700+ Overclock.

Is there a reason for the Orange slots ??? You just make me curious about those. :P

Anyway, keep updating this post. I want to see how far your gonna push your 3700+. And can you tell me what is your videocard?

Heres a screenshot of my CPU at the moment. I had some work to do this week so I didnt had the time to make it stable at 2700Mhz.

I think all the NF4 boards under volt the cpu...On mine I can count for .04 in ITE and .02 in bios...

When I set mine at 1.400+104% it shows in cpu-z and ITE as 1.4vcore... not a big problem as long as it's cool and passes prime i dont really care what the real volts are...;)

I have got a couple of 3700's i picked up off the forum a KAB1E and a KAB2E and depending where you look one is better than the other but it's either one depending where you look.... i have heard the 1st one then the second one...so I'll find out soon....;)

they seem pretty nice cpu's...

I kinda jumped forward then backwards....I leaped from NF2 to NF4 (sig) and then to the NF3-250... and I tell you what...I really like my NF4 rig but right now I have been spending alot of time on my nf3 rig....it's my main media pc as well as my internet surfer... I have it in my shop in the basement and man I tell you what... how did I miss those....?

This 3400 is sweat.... and runs cold as heck...but as soon as I get the 7600gt in the NF4 rig,,might be another story...?

Internet host must be having problems that is why my sig is not there.

gfx card = Point of view 6800GS 512MB.

A small update, I was planning on showing

2x512mb BallistiX @200Mhz (tweaked timings)

vs

2x512MB BallistiX @250Mhz (tweaked timings)

But the kit does not work in DC mode anymore.

Both memtest stable but fail prime95 in DC mode.

So now it is only going to be

2x1GB EB plat @200Mhz (tweaked timings)

vs

2x1GB EB plat @250Mhz (tweaked timings)

Might try more than 250Mhz, will see how it goes.

I am very busy with course work and work so not much is going to happen yet. :(

I ran memtest for 11 hours with the following settings,

GENIE BIOS Setting

>DRAM Configuration..................Press Enter = New Menu

LDT/FSB Frequency Ratio..............X 5.0

LDT BUS Transfer Width...............16 16

CPU/FSB Frequency Ratio..............X 11

PCI eXpress Frequency................100Mhz

K8 Cool 'n' Quiet Support............Disable

Cool 'n' Quiet MAX FID...............AUTO

CPU VID StartUp Value................1.325 V

CPU VID Control......................AUTO

CPU VID Special Control..............AUTO

LDT Voltage Control..................1.20 V

Chip Set Voltage Control.............1.50 V

DRAM Voltage Control.................2.60 V

+0.3v if not 3.2v....................Disabled

Run MemTest86+.......................Enabled

GENIE BIOS Setting >DRAM Configuration

DRAM Frequency Set (MHZ).............200 (DRAM/FSB:1/01)

Command per clock (CPC)..............Enabled

Cas latency (tCL)....................2

RAS to CAS delay (tRCD)..............3

Min RAS active time (tRAS)...........5

Row precharge time (tRP).............2

Row cycle time (tRC).................07

Row refresh cycle time(tRFC).........10

Row to Row delay (tRRD)..............2

Write recovery time (tWR)............2

Write to read delay (tWTR)...........1

Read to write delay (tRWT)...........1

Refresh period (tREF)................AUTO

Write CAS latency (tWCL).............N/A

Odd Divisor Select...................Disabled

DRAM Bank Interleave.................Enabled

DQS Skew Control.....................AUTO

DQS Skew Value.......................0

DRAM Drive Strength..................Level 8

DRAM Data Drive Strength.............Level 3

- Came home and it had Failed test #8.

- Ran test #8, 4 cycles, always fails with the above settings.

So I changed this Read to write delay (tRWT) = 1 to 2.

Test #8 no longer fails he 4 cycles.

Obviously I am going to run it for 11 hours again this Saturday.

Baby steps :)
