-_{MoW}_-Assasi Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Hello, I was wondering what the Heatsink in the top right hand corner of my Lanparty NF4-SLi DR board is, coz err... mine emits smoke when i try to turn it on I would REALLY prefer to try and save this board, as i have a RAID 0 Setup on it and really would be pissed if i lose all my data
Sharp Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Hello, Top right = memory voltage MOSFET, controls memory voltage. How/when did it start to smoke? Did you change the voltage settings or move the higher than 3.2v jumpers?
-_{MoW}_-Assasi Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 i always had it on the 4v jumper ever since i bought the board, which was about 14 months ago, its only when i put it back into my case that it did this, Is it unfixable? Sharp Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Well its fixable but that means desoldering the old FET and soldering a new one. When using the 4V jumper you must never clear the CMOS and power the PC. (You must move the jumpers back first.) If something happened that caused the CMOS to reset it would have done the above. (which is bad) Do not power the pc again and contact DFI to find out if they can help.
-_{MoW}_-Assasi Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Where can i get a new MOSFET? Besides directly from DFI, because i dont know how long that could take, and i may just buy a new Lanparty Ultra-D on Saturday instead Ill try to contact them, hopefully they can help
Sharp Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Any electrical components store but, fixing this yourself = Modding the board and voids the warranty so I would not advise you do this.
-_{MoW}_-Assasi Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Well, see, i did the oil computer mod, and just took it out of there, and its all oily, do you think DFI would still accept that? And besides, i really never cared much for warranty so i dont mind doing the mod myself
-_{MoW}_-Assasi Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I probibly wont qualify for warranty anyways lol Does anyone know the model number for that specific MOSFET? and how to put that Heatsink back on it
Sharp Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Heatsink is stuck on it, just need thermal tape or thermal glue. If you remove the heatsink the FET should have some numbers on it, that should be a sort of universal reference number. If it is unreadable you could ask DFI. The FET is a Variable voltage regulator, if you know an electrical engineer or expert they may be able to advise you of a suitable replacement. Make sure you mention that is needs to handle 2.5v to 5v. Ask DFI first
-_{MoW}_-Assasi Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 so how do i remove it? lol just pry it off?
yfital Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 am, i just wanted to add, as long as you move the RAID to another nvidia4 board, the data will NOT be lost... so you really dont need to worry about that side.
-_{MoW}_-Assasi Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 even under RAID 0? well to hell with fixing it then lol, but i reakon ill try anyway, i like fixing things EDIT - Just wanted to add, you hav a VERY similar system to mine yfital
