memory issues

Recommended Posts

I started building the system follow the great guide that Chynn put on another tread. Anyway I have the expert mobo with OCZ 2X1G Plat. If I put either stick in dimm 2 and run the memtest all is find. as soon as I put both sticks in dimms 2&4 tried 1&3 get the diag. lites 2,3,and4 on which indicate CPU detected - no post. It just sits there.

Do I have 1. bad mobo or 2. bad memory? all help is appreciated.

thanks

OK, at this time, all I have connected,is the motherboard, cpu, video card and 1 stick of memory. everything is installed but not connected.

Hi there, ledzep58 ... and thanks for the compliment ... :)

Which OCZ memory are you using??? And did you use the "stock" 200MHZ settings for it??

Did you double-check your GENIE BIOS settings??? For example, my OCZ runs 2-3-2-5 @ 200MHZ but the GENIE BIOS wants me to put that in as 2-3-5-2 ... which I screwed up the first time around so one stick would work, but two wouldn't.

And last, do you happen to have another PSU floating around?? I have seen some posts in these forums about the Seasonics doing wierd things at post. Don't know if that applies to your PSU or not. Just a thought though.

Hope this helps ...

I have the 2 GB (2 pcs 1GB) DDR (400) PC-3200 OCZ Dual Channel Platinum (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K). I set the genie bios up according to the BE website

for this motherboard / memory combo. I don't have another PSU.

the issue is that when I tested one stick at a time they worked. If both are in

dimms 2&4 the diag. lighst show: 2,3 and4 on - which indicates CPU detected.

also the bios is old and the rev. on the mobo is AA0

this is on the BE site forum also

just trying to get ideas as to where the problem(s) are:

RyderOCZ from BE site, wanted me to do the following:

Try this for me please:

Clear the CMOS on the board

Insert 1 stick into the farthest orange slot from CPU

Boot to Memtest (just enable it on the Genie Bios page, then reboot.)

Note the timings that are displayed

(info on what you should see is here:

http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/sho...98&postcount=6)

Now power down the machine

Clear the CMOS again and swap sticks (replace with other stick and again put it in the orange slot farthest from CPU)

Now power up and again boot to memtest.

Note the timings....are they the same as the other stick?

so I did this and here are the results:

OK, didn't get home from work yesterday until 8 pm so did nothing, Today I did what you asked and here are the timings:

one stick timings 2-3-2-5 runs clean no errors 2 passes

other stick timings 2.5-3-2-5 errors 2 passes

test failing addr: good bad er-bits count

6 0002a08c230 04000000 05000000 01000000 4

the address is the same just error-count goes up

also when both sticks are in system - no post, no boot

diag. lights 2,3 and 4 on which indicate CPU detected

really not sure where the problem is. Also just so you know there are

no disk and no OS installed

thanks
