Bosco Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 Has anyone ever heard of a modem powering up a PC? From what I have been told from a buddy is that he has his phone plugged in to his modem then the other cord plugged into the jack which is normal. Everytime his phone rings the computer powers up. Any ideas guys?
d3bruts1d Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 Some computers have a Wake-On-Ring setting in the BIOS, that allows a computer to boot when the phone rings. Kinda like the WOL ability. Is this an old PC with a built in modem? If it's a USB modem, some PC's also have the ability to allow USB to start a computer.... like using the mouse or keyboard to start the PC. Hades25 Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 .....sometimes its a jumper on the motherboard or modem....but like dbruts3d said its usually in the bios
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 I just dont see the point in having a feature like WoL or WoR?
d3bruts1d Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 WoR was nice if the PC doubled as a FAX. WoL is good if you are running a file/print/etc server.
