amped Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Every time my rig goes idle, e.g. when I go to sleep, go to school, leave the house for a few hours, it freezes. If the monitor is off, then it will turn back on and the power LED on it will just blink. If it was on, the screen will just be a still image, and I can't move the mouse. I've looked through the Power Management set up, and I'm pretty sure that something is powering down that can't power back up, but I can't find what the setting is. Also, if this is just one setting I have to change, is it normal?
Gipse Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Hi, check the settings of your network adapter(s). But to be honest I believe it´s your PSU, can you please give us a link or specs? Gipse
amped Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I'm pretty sure it's actually not a hardware problem, because it only happens when the computer goes idle, not when I'm using it. Also, what does my network adapter have to do with it?
Gipse Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Hi, there is a power-option (network adapter) called "allow system to..." Can´t remember exactly, it´s worth trying. Good luck! Gipse
amped Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Didn't help. By the way, if something like prime is running in the background when I leave, it doesn't freeze. Only when nothing is running at all and I'm not using it for a while, it freezes.
hmf Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Don't know if you've got the Wake On Usb keyboard or mouse or Wake Up function for Ps/2 keyboard or mouse enabled on your board. I think there are jumpers to enable this. Also enable wakeup funtion in bios..usb or ps/2 depending on what you are using.
MyklC Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I tried updating to the latest BIOS, tweaking the settings in there to allow wake on mouse, wake on kb, fiddled with the various settings, even enabled the resume on power option under power management. Opened it up, set the jumper for USB 1-6 to the non default setting. Still no joy. I used to be able to just turn on a power strip and have the system, monitor, etc all power up at once. Now I have to do that and then kick the power button, which is driving me nuts. Oh, and I have a Win 98 style keyboard with power, wake, sleep etc buttons. Hitting any of them puts it into Hibernate, but I can't get it to start back up except with the front power button. If I hadn't paid so much for the board I'd toss it and get a NF4 SLI-DR or something instead.
crashthenet44 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Your having the exact same problem that I had. At least in my testing this is not an issue with the machine going to "sleep." I turned all my power options off and the machine hard locked after what seemed to be a random period of time. It started when I installed the LAN drivers. Nvidia Firewall wasn't installed so this was not causing the locks. As soon as I uninstalled them the problem went away. No big deal for me since I'm running wireless. CamB Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I've had this problem suddenly occur overnight, and I might have it fixed. I'm a n00b, so don't laugh if what I say sounds stupid. FWIW, I've had the problem while running prime. It appeared to start after I dropped the core voltage from 1.43v (1.3*110%) to 1.275*1.1=1.4v (at least, I think that's what I did). I left it priming to see if it was stable and in the morning the monitor was asleep and wouldn't wake up. Restarted, and restarted prime. Checked it at lunchtime and... same problem. I've bumped the voltage back to 1.43v and just asked my wife to check and the screen woke up... so maybe I've fixed it. Lotta maybe's in there...
