Stability Problems With WinXP

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I have been building a new computer with an DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D board recently, and have run into a few problems.

When I attempt to install Windows XP Professional (SP1) onto the computer it BSODs with the error message IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL when I am near the final stages of completing the installation. I have tried many times to install Windows (each with a formated drive) and I have failed every time. Eventually, I got fed up with that and switched the drive over to another system (Gigabyte NF3 A64 system) and installed Windows onto the drive.

I then transfered the drive back over to my DFI system, and booted it up. After a few unsucessful tries, I managed to log into Windows and install my videocard drivers and motherboard drivers. When I restarted after these installations the system appeared to work fine, and I continued on to update windows.

While I was doing this, Windows BSOD'd again, leading me to believe that installing the drivers hadn't solved the problem.

I am wondering if there are any possible hardware conflicts (my system is in my signature) that could have caused this and how I might solve them, or if there is probably something I did incorrectly. Would using a SP2 version of WinXP solve this? Any help in solving my problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sp2 wont solve ur problem all it does is make things a little more user friendly. when i came into this problem last i just striped my whole pc down and checked all my wiring and hardware and booted in same mode with the barest stetting possible. then u can download ur drivers and be able to reconize it from there.

Okay, so I think I've figured out what was causing the problems. I had one of my DIMMs in slot 2 and another in slot 4, but when I removed the stick in slot 4 it worked fine. I tried switching the sticks, and both work fine alone.

After getting my system up and running, I decided to try both DIMMs again, and ran memtest to check for problems. It finds 32 errors. What may be causing these errors? I'm pretty sure there are only problems with the DIMM in slot 4, so could it be that the motherboard DIMM slot is bad?

I tried booting with the DIMMS in slots 2 and 4 and it crashed upon loading windows. After a few times I managed to catch the error:

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

Microsoft's site says it could be bad RAM, but it seems like it is a problem with the motherboard not liking my corsair RAM in dual channel config.

Hope this information helps determine the exact problem.
