Guest napalm Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Hey everyone, I got 4X512 of Corsiar XMS PC3200 memory at 2-2-2-5 and 208mhz. It is of course running on 2T. I am thinking about selling these memory sticks and getting 2X1gig of OCZ memory model OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K which will run at 2-3-2-5. Of course I can run this at 1t settings and have more room between my sticks. What would you do and why?
rldolph79 Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Stick with the 4x512 if it's working for you. You're performance increase by switching from 2T to 1T is negligible, so I can't see spending the money...

My performance improvement from switching from 2T to 1T is a 14% gain (SANDRA) and a slight but noticeable gain in games (varies between games). But you're right - if 4x512 is working, you don't change it unless you really want to. Muggie2
cyberpeke Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 But how much do you have to spend on justifying that 14% gain?
Guest napalm Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Well, I should be able and resell my 4X512 sticks and get enough money+ to get the RAM that I mentioned above. It really isn't a matter of spending money. But is the performance gain enough to justify the hassle.

red930 Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 If you're going to upgrade your ram, I'd look to get at least something capable of DDR500 since it would help much. It's still more of a convenience than annecessity though, just helps everything load faster.
sn_85 Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 stick with your 4x512. you might get a 14% gain in synthetic benchmarks but in games its like 2-3%. not worth it imo.
