How do I get USB 2.0 speed?

Recommended Posts

I cant remember if I installed the USB drivers from the cd or not, but I did uninstall the Host Controller in my Control Panel (Under "Universal Serial Bus Controller" like another thread stated.

It still takes me about 2-3min to transfer about 100mb of songs to my Sandisk Sansa MP3 player. This player supports USB 2.0, and the usb plug that its plugged into support USB 2.0. My bios is set to 2.0/1.1

First things first, make sure you're Windows is updated completly... (SP2).

Then I'd delete the items under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in device manager

Then the next step I'd take would be to get the latest nForce drivers (6.70) and install them.

Finally reboot your machine and it should install with the latest USB 2.0 drivers.

If after all that, you still don't get good transfer speeds, I'd check to see if there's a firmware update for your MP3 player.

I hope that helps somewhat.

Maybe these threads can help you...

1.) My Thread

2.) Similar Thread

I still haven't got mine to work properly. Maybe you'll have better luck.

I dont get any messages saying I am using a High Speed device on a non-HiSpeed USB port. Should I be getting this message if USB2.0 isnt working?

Ill try to delete all the USB controllers again. I have a USB keyboard and mouse, how do I remove the USB controller and still control my PC?

No No, I was talking of the HI-SPEED USB because I was trying to get my iPod working correctly. When I connect my iPod, it says it can connect at a faster rate. The HI-SPEED USB is the 2.0 USB.

When you uninstall the USB controller, both your mouse and keyboard won't work for a few seconds (obviously). Then Windows will go through and reinstall its own drivers, of which supposedly has the 2.0 USB.

What is the speed of your sandisk storage in terms of read/write and not usb speed? If the read speed isn't very fast it won't matter if you have usb 2.0 working.

Im not sure what speed it read/writes. Sandisk site doesnt have much info, and the package doesnt either. Sandisk site does list the speed of its Extreme II and III cards. They are 66x (10MB/sec) and 133x (20MB/sec) , so I figure mine has to be at least 1x . That would make it a little over a minute to transfer 100MB.

I think i found the problem. My mp3 player states its "USB 2.0 High Speed". I found my 512MB Viking flash drive, and tried that one out. The same files transfer in 27sec, compared to 3min on my mp3 player. Now I have to figure out why the mp3 player isnt transferring correctly...

  • 4 weeks later...

Here's what I did if it helps anyone in the future:

I went to the device manager (Right Click on my computer > hardware tab > device manager button)

I went to the second grouping of "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"

I right clicked on the item that contained the words "USB Advanced Host Controller"

I went to properties > driver > update driver

I chose not to have windows search for me

I chose "Install from a specific location"

I chose "don't search. I will chose the driver to install"

I selected "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller"

(Previously it was using something like "PCI Class USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller")

Clicked Next and Boom problems solved.

Don't know how you found that out... but it worked like a charm. Thanks.
