Recommended CPU cooler for under $20 ?
dfimonkey replied to dfimonkey's topic in Processors, Motherboards and Memory
Will this CPU work fine with my AMD64 ? It has some pretty decent reviews, and I dont overclock so it should be adequate. I'm a bit confused about the "K8" listing. http://www.svc.com/acalp64.html -
Thanks tasr, I found a VC-RE link about 15 min after I posted. Since i will be replacing the fan with a VC-RE, do you have any recommendations on other cooling I can buy from SVC? Ive had my system for almost 2 years now. So far I think the chipset fan is the noisiest, but I'm not sure how noisy my CPU fan is, since I cant turn it off while the rest of the system is running (or can I?)

In my bios, I see the chipset fan listed under PC HEALTH, but it only shows the current temp and RPM. At the top of the list, it doent show "CHIPSET FAN" where I can set the values, only CPU, FAN 2, and NP (what is this?). Is the Chipset fan called something different near the top?

What should the temp and RPM speed be for the chipset fan? My fan was acting up earlier, making a terrible noise, sounded like a cat in labor. Currently it sounds fine, and the speed is between 3400 to 3500 RPM. The temp ranges from 46 - 50 C. Is this normal? I'm going to order a Evercool VC-RE and replace it anyway, but I want to make sure I'm not going to hurt my system if I keep using the fan the way it is. Just to verify, the VC-RE will work on a LP UT NF4 Ultra-D board, correct?

Currently the fan is still running, but the speed goes up and down from 998 RPM to 3590 RPM. The temperature stays around 48 C. What is the normal fan speed and operating temperature? It looks like people recommend getting the Thermalright HR-05-SLI for a replacement, but I need something today. For a temporary solution, would a standard chipset fan fit on the NF4 chip ? I see most online stores state "Northbridge/Southbridge" chipsets for 40mm fans. I called a local computer repair shop, and they said they have standard chipset fan/heatsink combo for $15 (yikes). Any suggestions? Thanks.

I currently have a 3000+ AMD64 in my rig, and Newegg has a deal for an OEM 4000+ AMD64 for $79. Is this worth the upgrade? How much of a speed increase should I expect? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...FC-Bensbargains
