    i5-4670k Build for friend! Opinions?

    Windows 8 is fine imo. About the OCZ ssds, I did not mean to offend anyone...I have not owned an OCZ SSD before but I have been reading forums about a lot of faulty drives. It just got me concerned about the reliability of their SSDs. I would expect an ssd to last well over the life of a HDD. But I guess not everything is perfect. Also is OCZ in a financial mess right now?

    I guess this thread is going to become pretty quiet soon, because my rig can now fit into my sig  :lol:

    It shipped a couple hours ago so I'm hoping it will be here tomorrow.

    Also bought the Cooler Master Strike Force 19 cooler so that there's no overheating problems with gaming.

     

    Looking forward to it :D And hopefully I can get used to Windows 8... :-/

    Don't worry, Windows 8 will be fine! You get used to the gestures to multitask and all that...I find myself moving my cursor to the edge of my screen on my Win 7 PC sometimes lol...And sad to hear you're moving to console...May I ask what made you switch??

    The cost of upgrading my PC just grew too much.

    With a PS4 game developers optimize the game for that hardware which is common in all PS4s, thus providing the best relative visual experience whilst staying with smooth performance and this is often lacking on games on PC which are often just console ports with unoptimized additions like tessellation and SSAO which halve the performance and are often worked into custom presets like Metro LL. If your PC can't handle one of the settings in the presets then you have to end up lowering to a lower preset and lose out on options in above presets which you would be able to run if you had individually customisable settings instead of just a "High" preset. 

     

    I guess you're right about the optimization...But It's really fun to build and maintain a computer...It's the cost that hurts. Well, enjoy the PS4! make sure you get The Last of Us ;)

    Looks clean, but could of saved some cash and got a 7950 instead.

    Nah, he wanted 'the best of the best', he wanted a Titan, 7990 or 690 :/ And I was like "you don't need that much power for a 1600x900 res monitor..." lol. So the 7970GHz was the best bets, It is also future proofed...:)

    haha, yea, except I wouldn't have gone with the Level 10 GT...I really wanted him to get the Trooper but nooooooooooo...lol. Solid Rig, loads windows in literally seconds :O Gotta get myself a Samsung 840 pro...

    Or any half decent SSD, there are other SSDs besides the 840 lol. Alot of people don't realize that :P

     

    Yea I do realise there are more SSDs out there lol :P but what I meant was, the 840 pro seems to be a trustworthy SSD. I want to be able to feel 'safe' about my data lol. I recently found out OCZ SSDs are pretty bad in terms of long term use...Sad.

    hahaha!!! What's wrong with windows 8? lol, I mean I left that decision to him...He wanted to go with Win 7 but his mum told him to get the latest lol. I've been using windows 8 for quite some time now (on my laptop) and to me, It's pretty good, the main reason I like it is because it is so snappy. And Thanks!

    I recently built a computer for my friend! and it turned out well...lol. Anyway Opinions? BTW this was my first build for a 'Client' :O and my first Intel build.

    Antec Kuhler 920 + noctua NF F12 Problem

    I used prime 95 for like 10 minutes and got a max temp of around ~45 degrees c. Is this good for an anted kuhler with a stock 8350? The noctua fans are pretty loud when they adjust RPMs and when maxed.

     

    Yes, that temperature is absolutely fine.

    Antec Kuhler 920 + noctua NF F12 Problem

    Ok, so I installed the Y cable (was a pain to squeeze it through the upper grommet of the R3 since there were so many cables lol) and My CPU actually runs cooler under load :DDD. So I have my fans connected to my CPU_fan header and my pump connected to the Sys_fan and everything seems good!! My pump runs at 2700RPM and my fans are quiet. I played some FC3 and max Temp I got was 37.9 degrees C. So I'm happy :D thanks!

    hi guys/gals,

    I have a problem :O, haha well I attached 2 noctua fans straight away when I received my Kuhler 920 and when using chill control I can't adjust the modes (extreme/silent) nor can I see the RPM of the fans and the dB level. Here are my options:

    Should I use the provided y cable (came with the noctua fans) to connect my noctua NF F12's to my CPU fan header and connect the kuhler 920 pump to the sys fan?

    or 

    should I just leave it how it is? :/

    what would be the disadvantage if I use the y cable or option 1? besides not seeing or adjusting the speeds of the fan.

    Noctua NF-P12 or Corsair SP120 Quiet Ed For Antec Kuhler 920

    Hi guys!

    So I purchased the kuhler 920 and would like to know which fan would offer good/better performance over the stock fans of the 920. The Noctua NF-P12 is ~$25 and the SP120's in a twin pack are $32, so would the Noctua fans be worth the extra? are the SP120's quiet or are they loud? Please help :D

    PS. I dont mind if you recommend some fans other than the ones stated but keep in mind I want them to look nice in my fractal design r3 :D

    Hey thanks for the reply. Should I upgrade to a hyper 212 evo? for $35, would I see an improvement? Also I want to purchase dual Corsair SP 10 quiet edition fans, would they create a noticable difference in performance over some cheap Xigmatek fans? Or should I just go with a nocuta d14?

    Hey, what's a good cooler for an FX 8350? really want to oc it to 4.5GHz, I just OC'ed my 7950 and gained a few frames (kinda fun to OC :D)

    Considering your ambient as ~25-30C, I would suggest Hyper 212 EVO. It is enough to handle 8350 @4.5GHz.

     

     

    thanks for the reply!!! I currently have a hyper 212+ and a pair of xigmatek fans, you reckon if I purchased 2 nocuta fans I'll gain a performance boost? Also would you say an Antec kuhler 920 would be good? I really like the 920 since it looks great and should perform good with overclocks...

    The 8350 is proving a great processor at its price. Performs between I5 and I7. Enjoy!

     

    Vague comment. You can't classify anything that much randomly.

     

    Well, his comment may be vauge but from gaming benchmarks I've seen the 8350 beat the i5 3570k by a bit (check out tek syndicates gaming review on youtube about the 8350), I know from benchmarks that the 8350 dominates the i5 3570k in rendering :D (search the web). To bad the 8350's Per core performance ain't the best :/ but still a great value chip IMO.

    Hey, I have been using windows 8 for a while now on my laptop and here are a few things I like about it. Firstly I love how fast it is to boot and log in, I like the new task manager (very detailed) and the new multiple file transfer, I like how the theme colour adjusts to your wallpaper, I like the new 'boxy' theme (like windows phone). I like the start menu but dislike it at the same, why do I hate the new start menu? well it's more focused on mobile and tablets with the 'apps' like angry birds, fruit ninja...stuff like that. I hate how internet focused it is...(i dont have the best internet). What I like about the start menu is that it looks nice with it's transition and customizable theme. Windows 8 is gesture based, you can move your cursor to the upper left conner of the screen to see the opened apps and you can move your cursor to the upper right corner and move down to open a 'charm bar', you get used to these mouse gesture. Anyway Windows 8 is a more optimized version of windows 7 and is more inclined towards the mobile market. Every company is basically going mobile since it is a rapidly growing market. Personally I like windows 8, but I'm going to stick to windows 7 on my gaming desktop. Microsoft is shifting its focus towards the mobile market and they made a risky bet with windows 8.

    Hope my post wasn't crap :/ just trying to help.

    EDIT: Windows 8's benchmarking software actually goes up to 10 now instead of 7.9 :D. Windows 8 is more personal.

    I'm not having a problem with Bioshock Infinite :), I would probably never switch to Intel anytime soon unless AMD fails (doubt it). Was never a fan with intel and their obsurd prices (2010, when I was choosing a CPU for my Comp). FX 8350 is awesome, having no troubles with it and plus my GPU is fine (lol just got it like 2 months ago.), I can basically play everygame maxed out @ 1080p above 30 fps. So far no regrets :)
