  1. No joy. Just had the same crash playing Crysis
  2. Ok, so I took the advice and bought a Coolermaster 700w SilentPro and have fitted it. In doing so I noticed that I had only plugged in 4 of the 8 available pins of the 12v input (4 had a cover on them) - could it be that this was the problem in the first place? I've plugged in all 8 now with the new PSU.
  3. It's at 640/1150/1363 according to GPU-Z and I've not changed it. Idles at 52 degrees.
  4. I get where you're coming from, but, having googled it, all the reviews I can find are glowing. I'm loathe to dish out another £100 on a good PSU only to find that isn't the problem. To that end, is there any way I can test it? It's not that I don't appreciate the advice - I do - but given the contradictory review info I'd like to carry out a test myself.
  5. How do I go about checking the power supply?
  6. At £280 this seems pretty decent to run on the setup in my sig, but I thought I'd ask some expert opinion before committing http://www.overclockersonline.net/reviews/50002431/
  7. My current rig (see sig) was built about 2 years ago, and I'm getting the itch to improve it somewhat. Windows 7 seems to be the obvious first upgrade, but I was also thinking about including a SSD of some sort to boot from. Would you do much different? If I do go down the SSD route, would I be best off just putting Windows 7 on there, or would you put some of your more frequently used programmes on it as well?
  8. Hey Sometimes when playing a few more graphically intensive games I get a crash where the screen goes all one single colour (usually a colour which was on-screen at the time) and everything stops except the sound. I can do nothing at this point except restart the PC - all the keys are unresponsive. It doesn't seem to be a heat issue and I was wondering if poor seating of the card could be doing it. Anyone got any ideas? System details as per my sig.
  9. Great! Ordered the 8400GS PCI. Should arrive soon. Thanks all.
  10. Would that not need a power supply?
  11. Hey all I've been taking a look at my in-laws PC as they asked me to make it a bit faster. Having carried out the usual clean-up routine and seen that they had 256Mb of RAM I upgraded to 2Gb pretty much immediately and it's made a big difference. The next problem is the graphics card - it's an on-board 32Mb one which stumbles on web-pages, so it needs an upgrade. The mobo is a K7VM2 and CPUZ says it is AGP 2.0 (so 4x), and their PSU has no pare outputs. I can't find a 4x card anywhere, and I'm uncertain on backwards compatibility of newer cards. So, the question is this: can someone recommend a decent (7000 series nvidia type) card which is compatible with the mobo but doesn't need separate power supply? Thanks

No real problems here, although I do sometimes get a random polygon covering steering wheels :/
  13. - The decision to go to war was taken 8 months before we went. Source with particular reference to "July 23, 2002: The Downing Street Memo was written, in which British intelligence said "C reported on his recent talks in Washington. There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."" - The intelligence about WMD was flawed and deliberately misinterpereted in order to acheive the aim of a war in Iraq. Source - The UN did not give any approval for military action. Source - with particular reference to "it is up to the council itself, and not individual members, to determine how the body's resolutions are to be enforced." Forgive me for: a) using wikipedia as a source - I know its limitations. b) not giving a much more thorough debrief but I'm a bit busy this morning.
