I've been trying to figure out how to get around this self protection part of windows. Has anyone faced this particular error? I'm running on the administrator account, the hidden admin account and running the program as an administrator. Tried the fix using the security policy, smart screen, and unblocking in properties. I can't find anything via google for this particular warning either. The certificate IS expired, but I should be able to run it and update it once I run it. It's an application for flooring called Rollmaster. It's for work and 100% legitimate software.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried another video card in the system to see if it still behaves like this? I'd be curious to know if the system is still unstable after switching out the video card. I picked up an old GeForce 6800XT to swap and try out, but I ended up purchasing a 6970 before I ever got to that. I'm running stable again. I'm out of HDD space on my system drive and need to get an SSD in the ~250GB range. I'm looking for the VRM temp in GPU-z. I've only found GPU temp, and then GPU temp #1,2,3. Are these other GPU temps the VRMs?

I don't have an extra card, but I'll see if my dad has my old Geforce 6 series thatIi can swap in and try out. Voltage regulator module - essentially the only reason 4870X2s and 5970s die and are limited on overclocking. GPU-Z can monitor the temperatures of them. Just try to log in and fire up GPU-Z. The temperatures tab should have multiple temperature readouts for the various VRMs on the card. Thank you, I don't have GPU-z installed so I don't know. It's not booting now- perhaps Sunday I can fiddle with it.

What are VRM?

Would it be helpful to know that whenever it crashes and I try to boot windows normally, I have ended up resetting the BIOS just to get the BIOS to load on start up and then try to boot. It's not booting at the moment, which makes me question as to whether I should just get a hammer. I'll try fiddling with it later. I've got a media center live disc that I should be able to do something with.

When I first got the card I was idling at like 60C. I removed the heatsink, applied thermal grease to everwhere the pads (kind of) were, then reinstalled the heatsink. Then the card would idle closer to like 30-40C and under max load I wouldn't let it get any higher than 70C based on how it was clocked. The problem I had (what I understood it as) is that when I overclock it, it throttles back and the card doesn't get enough voltage to run on which causes problems. It would run flawlessly under max load but as soon as I turned of furmark/kombustor I would have artifacts all over the place.

Power supply is a ThermalTake toughpower 1050W. It was new in summer 2012, but I haven't turned my system on in about a year. I can't get a temp reading under load because the picture goes black, but before I was under 60 or 70C with a full load (Don't remember which). I had to replace all of the thermal grease when I purchased the card and it was nice and cool after that. Before this started happening I could run two instances of FurMark and Kombustor without issue. It's a cheap diamond multimedia card, figured it'd be alright though.

Alright an update: Today I booted up, killed afterburner with the task manager on startup, and it didn't crash! I ran prime95 for 3.5 hours with no issues. I then opened up Furmark and as soon as it started it siezed up. I havent' done anything else yet. I'll hook it up to the router and install any driver updates.

I had a stable system with a Phenom II X2 3.2 GHz OC'd to 4.09GHz. I OC'd the card, and it ran great at full load, but when it scaled back it would drop voltage too low and cause graphic artifacts all over the place. So I ran at stock frequencies and I was seeing how far I could take my CPU by pushing voltage instead of setting it on auto and letting it ride. Then I recall (this was in 2012) I put all my setting back to where it was stable and then it kept seemingly crashing even at stock frequencies. I got a new processor (needed a new one anyway) but I have the same problem. I'll take a video later and post it here so you guys can see exactly what I'm talking about. I figured it was CPU related but when I dropped in a new brain today it did the exact same thing.

I need to update the VGA BIOS on my card (HD 5970 2GB). Does anyone know of a good tutorial for this that you could link me to? I'm not sure if it's my problem, but my system crashes after logging into windows after everything turns on (afterburner, etc). I know these were notorious for having problems with the original VGA BIOS and I've never updated. First due to lack of DOS USB drive(And not understanding how to make one) and then surgery/joblessness/etc. Just installed a new processor so I know THAT's not it. FX-8320 Black edition Any help is appreciated.

Haven't bumped the southbridge voltages, left it on auto.

I've pushed 1.5625v through the vcore without problems, and gotten to 4090MHz stable on the two cores, but I'll try playing with the voltages. I thing I've damaged something because now I can't OC past 3600MHz and be somewhat stable, my file transfers are CRAP going to USB devices, and usually the USB drive is unable to be found mid transfer and then it still shows, but nothing in it, and can't transfer anything. I'm cooling with a ZALMAN CNPS9900ALED. Does a good job.

I'm having trouble unlocking the other two cores on this CPU. I have an ASUS M5A99X EVO, which features and unlocker in the BIOS, but it does nothing. I'd love to save off buying a quadcore and unlock the cores in this one. Help?

Ensure that your fan controller can handle the additional wattage. I burned out the first controller I bought made by thermaltake, so I took it back and got a Zalman, which has these nice heatsinks on the voltage regulators. Been going strong ever since.

What are you cooling it with? What's the ambient air temperature? Have you replaced the thermal grease? If you have, how old was the tube you used? Is your fan working? (Or radiator fan if you're liquid) All things to consider.
