But in reality, whats the difference between random reads at 355 MB/s versus 371 MB/s - kind of like . into the wind really........................................

Especially if that last little bit makes 80% of your RAM sit idle. :P

Tolerance is a sign of weakness.

:lol:

I'm pretty sure turning on the large data cache does something similar - it's just not preemptive. :cheers:

Preemptive - one of my favorite words.

Like I'm going to preemptively punch you in the nose because I know you are going to cut me off in traffic :)

I forgot where I go to access Superfetch options.

For Superfetch only there are two options;

In the Services menu or via a direct registry edit. However, for prefetch you can enable/disable via the registry.

To disable Superfetch using the Services menu

In the Win7 quick search box, type "services.msc" without the quotation marks
Scroll down to Superfetch and enable or disable

Via the registry editor;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnableSuperfetch
Edit the DWORD (in hexadecimal)

If you wish to modify the Prefetch settings;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnablePrefetcher
Edit the DWORD (in hexadecimal)

The hexadecimal values you can choose from for both Superfetch and Prefetch are;

0: Disable SuperFetch
1: Cache applications only
2: Cache boot files only
3: Cache everything (default)
