Waco Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I'd use the auto-installer for USB thumb drives: http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20/memtest86+-4.20.usb.installer.zip
Pteroduck Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Alright, so can you give me a rundown on this whole thing? step by step please(:
Waco Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 To be honest I haven't used the auto installer. It should just install to a thumb drive you have plugged in. Then, when you reboot, it will automatically fire up and start running tests (assuming you've set USB to be bootable in the BIOS). Pteroduck Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 alright so first, i have to restart my computer into bios, set it to boot from USB, i just installed it to my USB, and it'll work, from there, then what?
Waco Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 It'll just run assuming you have boot from USB enabled. You don't have to do anything at all. Each full pass will probably take an hour or two, so it might be worth doing overnight.

Waco Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Then you've got some sleuthing to do. The timings could be off, the CPU could be unstable, etc. Cross that bridge when you get to it.
Pteroduck Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 This is what i got, arent my timings for my ram 9-9-9-24, 1333mhz, and stuff like that? this is the one i have --->http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231313
Waco Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Well if it passes then you don't need to mess with your memory settings. If it doesn't, then it's either your memory settings or something else in your machine being unstable. It's just a good first step when things aren't working properly.
