  1. I love your brutally honest opinions and am convinced this is why DFI gave you the heave-ho. In this case... I must ask is your current judgement clouded? Xtremesystems users have gripes... they are the 1% ers you previously refered to. Overall...based on their posts, this board is not as bad as you paint it. For a folding only rig, my next board will be the Infinity 975 G/X thanks to you. I have 2 already and am quite satisfied. I also have the new LP and it is awaiting arrival of a QX6700. There should be a bios other than 12/22 by then.
  2. Many OCZ Platinum users have had boot issues with this board. As Rgone and raju have said: Contact OCZ and let them know which board you are using. They will supply you with working Platinum. If you booted with other sticks, it's not the board.
  3. Any chance you can post the bios settings when the run is over? That's awesome!
  4. I wasn't knocking the bios as I haven't had time to play with it yet. Considering the press release, I just expected to find it to be officially released already. Glad to see they are bragging about quad core support.
  5. Although this bios is still beta, DFI is pushing it like it's gold already. Check out the press release on the DFI site. http://us.dfi.com.tw/Press/press_header_co...437.jsp&SITE=NA
  6. It's on the beta page. http://us.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bios..._FLAG=B&SITE=NA
  7. I noticed many on this site are using a modified Smart Guardian. Is there a specific version for this board? If so, would someone post the link? Everest Ultimate 3.01 is showing both cores on my E6600 @ 55C full load. The same version of Everest shows my watercooled E6300 is running 57C on core 1 and 55C on core 2. I just don't believe the temps being given for the E6300 and would love to get an accurate reading. TIA.
  8. I saw that HG. And I'm drooling at the prospects. Considering maximum F@H points are my goal, I have to weigh down time vs points. I'm currently at 3250 with a 360 FSB. The time needed for testing to go higher would kill me as I have to get by the guy in 4th on my team. LOL. I have many new parts on order, Hehe...enough to build another rig. Current plans include moving my E6600 to a Thermaltake Armor case, upgrading the ram to OCZ DDR800, a PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 PSU and adding a Corsair Nautilus 500 W/Cing kit. Meanwhile...I have an E6300, DFI 975 G/X on order. Once the second rig is up and running, I can tweak till my heart is content without losing points. Hopefully it will even allow time for submissions to the OC database. Best regards, WFO
  9. Wow! I can't believe it's taken me this long to get to and all the way thorugh this thread since I put my rig together a little over 2 weeks ago. HG's original post was right on the money. I jumped from 2.4Ghz to 3.25Ghz in 3 rather large steps and with only short 1 hour dual-prime and memtest86 sessions to test stability. All I wanted was a good OC that was stable for folding 24/7-365 and occasional benchies and dvd editing. Spending 2 weeks tweaking and testing just wasn't on the agenda! Points. I needed more points. LOL. I have no need to set my gf's mustache on fire with my OC's! My rig's been folding 100% on each core at 3250 for a week without a hitch! Some of RGone may be rubbing off though. I have a better case on order and picked up a Nautilus 500 WC kit today. I'm sure this puppy has a couple hundred mhz more in it without extreme measures. The only thing I may take exception to in HG's original post... I paid $185 for my DFI LP Expert and $184 for my 975G/X. Now the obsolete (?) Expert is going for $150. IMHO I should get an equal bios for the same money whether LP or Infinity. Honestly, now that I've spent time with the board, I can't complain. The performance is incredible and is keeping me 1st or 2nd in 24hr production on my F@H team...at least until they all get Conroes.
  10. OCZ has great support! I didn't have the no boot issue but I did have a bad stick. Rather then RMAing back to Newegg, I just requested an RMA and drove down since they are 45 minutes away. The replacement modules were pretested and I've had no further problems.
  11. ...well I definitely spoke to soon! Since RMAing the faulty ram, I've been running 24/7 with F&H and what I consider a mild OC compared to the overhead on the E6600. I'm currently running stable at 3105 mhz. I'm in the happy camper catagory now! I'll push higher when time permits.
  12. I'm running the latest bios. It shipped with the one dated 7/31. Thiis was the error message I received from MS. The only reason I was running optimized defaults was to verify system stability and hardware comaptibility before OCing. MS was wrong in this case. I traced the problem to a bad stick of RAM causing the I/O errors.
  13. This board still isn't worth buying IMHO. I've had it up and running since Friday night with optimized defaults. No OC. I've had 2 crashes on boot. (windows explorer) Windows was almost completely loaded. MS error reporting online crash analysys stated "bios is not fully compatible with processor." I suppose I shouldn't be surprised since people are so desperate to use the unreleased bios' (not even beta) versions floating around on the web. Based on performance to date, there is no point in overclocking till the next bios is released. Conroe E6600 DFI 975 X/G 2 GB OCZ Gold DDR 667 2X Seagate 250GB 7200rpm HDs Raid 0 Sapphire X1900GT 7/31 Bios XP SP2 Updated. I should have gone Asus. Why is DFI so late to the party? Surely they can afford to buy chips for testing if Intel won't supply test samples. Considering this Infinity board was the same price as my Expert, it should have equivalent features and perform as well.
  14. Someone at Extreme Overclocking is posting about a secret unreleased bios dated 8/16 for this board too. Based on HG's post above, I'll assume this isn't a DFI creation. http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/show...ad.php?t=233156 Initial reviews at Newegg indicate problems with the bios holding an OC on reboot and other issues. http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustratingRe...N82E16813136168 Is this board safe to buy for Core Duo now and have the reported issues been addressed? TIA
  15. This system was orginally built as a folding rig on an ECS board and it ran 4 months without any problems. Since swapping motherboards I can't run for more than 3 days without having the system freeze. I thought the IDE driver might be the issue and uninstalled it. I also tried removing all chipset drivers, cleaning with DC Pro and reinstalling minus the IDE driver. No joy. It acually ran long enough to get stable OC's ( 12 hour dual-prime/ 8 hour memtest)on the CPU and Ram but it's all useless if I can't run 24/7 without a lockup and losing WUs or folding time. At this point I'm ready to go back to the ECS board simply beacause it was rock stable. For the last week I've just been trying to get this board running reliably at optimized default settings without any luck. There are no clues whatsoever in Event Viewer. There were a couple of minidumps created on the hard resets but I have no way of analyzing them. The 1 stick of ram is in DDR 2. I couldn't get past the bios with it in DDR1. According to one power calculator I only need 250 watts of power. I don't think the PSU is an issue but... All the power connectors are connected. Any suggestions appreciated.
