So I seem to have it stable at 2.950ghz, v1.45. At this point, is it worth to try and push it to 3ghz? I mean what difference does 50mhz make? Also I'm not sure if I want to up the voltage any more, my temps under load are now 53-55C. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried that, still didn't work. It helped though as so far I seem to have it stable at 295*10 v1.45, but 300x10 still fails within a few seconds. I'm wondering if hitting 3ghz is even a realistic possibility now. As for my temps @ 1.475, they're pretty high, though I can't give you a consistent reading since orthos fails very quickly under load, but I did notice them spiking up to 55-59C. Yeah, this really is an excellent chip, I was in shock when I realized I am at 2.9 on stock. Now i'm worrying about the temps though, im getting 50-52C max under high load consistantly, is that OK or is it hurting the life of my chip? Also turning up the voltage to 1.475(cpu vid, not startup) and trying 300x10 isn't working for me either, I end up failing prime within a minute. Does this mean i've hit a wall and the chip itself is incapable of going to 3ghz stable? Or is it just not going any further because of my high temps?

Alright I got the second stick of ram back. No it wasn't a dual pack, originally they sold separate sticks of 1gb, but now they're selling them in packs. Everything runs great, I got a newer heatsink on it, but performance, timings and part number are the same. Not getting a lot of help on the OCZ forums either, somebody suggested I try the 150 divider but it isn't available to me unless I change multi to 9, at which point i get stuck in a boot loop anyway. I do have a question though, someone mentioned how im actually running on STOCK volts, since I only have my STARTUP value at 1.475 and everything else to default. Would this be accurate? In which case its pretty ridiculous to be running it at this speeds on stock volts.

Yup, thats the ram I have. It only came in single sticks of 1gb so I bought two, RMA'ing one as it was failing memtest. Should get it back in the next few days. I remember reading somewhere about maxing it at 215mhz or so at 3-4-4-8... I'll check the OCZ forum as well, maybe I can get some additional help there. I know it isn't fantastic ram for OC'ing, i'm just hoping to max out its full potential and maybe hit 3ghz at the same time.

Thanks for the feedback. Im even trying lowering voltages slightly, i've reduced LDT and CHIPSET volts. My main concern though, is whether or not I can push it any further, and if not, if there are any settings I can alter for slight performance/stability gains.

That program keeps crashing on me for some reason after a few mins, but running orthos next to it im getting a max of 54C(core0) and 52C(core1) under load.

Yep, so I bought an opteron170(CCBBE - 0617FPMW), did a clean format and reinstall of windows, I also upgraded my PSU to an OCZ GameXtreme 600W and bought an Nvidia 8800GTS. I do currently have ONE stick of the ram in my sig, as I am RMA'ing the other one. Right now I have it at 2.9ghz, stable, running for two days straight, ran prime on it, as well as gaming, 3dmark and many intensive applications. I'm using the same RAM settings as I did with my previous overclock of my 3000+ as my ram hasn't changed, wondering if you guys suggest any modifications to the settings, also wondering if I can push it more. I can't really recall how long i've had it run for, but when I was oc'ing my 3000+ I ran it repeatedly, and actually my ram had been faulty. I RMA'd one but both of them were faulty, but I made do with one defective stick for the longest time. Now when I had this current problem, I ran memtest again, and RMA'd the defective ram(two days ago). So right now i'm using one stick(the good one), I suppose to be on the safe side I should run memtest on that for a few hours again after I get this system running.

Yah, I tried uninstalling from cpanel first and then ran driver cleaner. My DVD drive is brand new, its an LG GSA-H10N Dual Layer DVD±. I'm sure it works because BIOS detects it correctly, it can play DVDs and worked fine on my opty(before i installed nforce) and when I did a fresh installation on a spare HDD, it also worked without any problems. I'm pretty sure I got it set to master cable wise, but honestly I didn't mess with the jumper settings(default). I got the DVD drive to work, I checked my device manager, and under the IDE drivers there was one that said something about nforce parrarel pata drivers, and though it showed no conflict, when I went to properties it just said 'unknown' under driver information(like version, date etc). So removed and installed a default microsoft IDE driver instead, rebooted and viola, DVD drive works like a charm. Only now my internet doesn't work..... Anyway, I think i'm just going to give in and format. This is getting ridicilous, and is too much trouble, i'm going to have to reinstall a ton of stuff but I suppose i'll atleast have a fresh OS. Thanks for the heads up on the PSU, I guess you guys have a point there, I am already tight on my budget but I understand the value of a good PSU. Are there any particular ones you guys might suggest that are affordable and will last a little while? Also, any tips on what I should install first on my fresh OS install? (driver wise specifically) Thanks. Edit: Sorry, forgot to add that I only have one SATA drive(main 200gig that im having problems with), and 2 other plain IDE drives for backup. No raid or anything like that.

Okay I guess the PSU is one thing I have to consider, though another thing is that I was able to play around with windows, shoot up 3dmark, and even run prime95 for half an hour after a quick OC to 2.9ghz. Then I got the brilliant idea of reinstalling nforce drivers(which now im sure were not the latest ones either, an idiotic mistake) After a lengthy procedure I was able to boot into windows again, got a win32 error regarding svchost or something, and ended up doing a repair install. So now I am booted up in Safemode. Device Manager is only showing one exclamation mark next to "Nvidia nForce PCI System Management" and my DVD drive still isn't being detected. Is there anything I can do at this point besides a format and a new PSU that would help? Thanks Edit: I ran driver cleaner and deleted all nvidia/nforce drivers. Now i am booting into windows fine but my DVD drive isnt being detected. I'm afraid of installing the mobo drivers though so im not sure what to do.

So after much consideration, I bought a new processor, opteron 170, installation was simple enough and everything was going fine. I installed the AMD x2 fixes and the computer was working perfectly. I read somewhere that to be on the safe side I should reinstall the Nforce drivers as well. Thats when the problems started. I just went through the installation pretty quick and ended up installing the nvidia firewall/networking drivers as well. I remember those causing me a ton of problems when I first built my comp and they all came back. I got blue screens and got caught in a boot loop. The errors were generally 'stop' errors and 000007b errors, nothing too detailed. I ended up reinstalling WinXP(repair install) and during the install it would ask me for some nforce drivers, particularly 'srcscan', parrarel ata drivers or something like that. I directed it to my system32 directory and finally I was able to boot into windows. Did a ton of windows updates and i thought everything was fine. Utorrent asked me to remove the nvidia firewall as its a buggy application(which is true based on my past experiences) and after I did that, I realized my lg dvd burner wasn't being detected, and my internet wasn't working either. DId a system restore to before i removed the nvidia networking drivers, and my net worked but my burner still wasn't being detected. So I booted into safemode and removed the nvidia drivers, rebooted and I got stuck in the same boot loop. OK, so my question is, is there a way to fix this damn problem? I can reinstall windows again, but i'm afraid i'll have the same driver conflict problems. I am pretty certain its the drivers BTW, my DVD drive is being detected in my bios, and everything was working after I installed the proc, it just all messed up once i updated my nforce drivers. I hear its got to do with some incompatability with my DFI mobo and its just driving me nuts. Is there any way to avoid a clean install? If I can get access to the file system(slave the drive for instance) are there any files/drivers or anything I can delete/replace that might allow me to boot into windows? At this point, I can't even boot the windows installation off the HDD, it reboots after it copies from the XP CD, and then it gets stuck in a boot loop again (error STOP 0x0000007E). I tried replacing my system32 folder with that of a clean install, but then it gave me an error stating it requires Nvatabus.sys, after copying it from my drivers folder I get caught in the same bootloop, so that didn't work =/. Thanks, lol I found 483mhz was the max I could get. Oh and I edited my previous post with some updates bout my scores. Edit: I saw some very minor artifact/glitching in CS:Source stress test so i'm bringing the clocks down a bit. 477mhz seems to be good, playing with the memory now. Hmm then again, the lil glitches are there even on stock speeds, they're very minor things so i'm thinking it might be something else. I'm gonna try a different game...

I think these are some new ones that have been popping up, no idea on it's overclockability and performance though.

Thanks for the replies. @xgunnas: I had to tweak the genie bios ram settings. eg. max async latency, idle cycles, skew control, data drive strength etc. It was a pain, but it seemed to have worked. I changed it slightly and ran 3dmark after each alteration and I noticed my scores were slowly increasing. Beyond a certain point they actually started decreasing, so I stuck with the stuff I quoted. Strangely, while it increased my 3dmark/pcmark scores, it reduced what I was getting in my mem bandwidth/cpu arthimetic tests on which I was basing my oc on before. There are still some combinations and whatnot I haven't tried but i'm kinda tired of that lol. Anyway so all that got it to 75xx, to push it to 8k I oc'd the card. I didn't do that before because I wanted to see exactly how much of a difference my CPU overclock would make (well in this case, my ram oc). @mursaat: I will definately try that out and report back with the results, thanks. Oh and yeah unfortuantely it's the free version of 3dmark05, so pressing ESC is the only way, but it works =) . Edit: 490/1170 don't work, it fails the driver tests. Also, I dunno if this is normal or not, but 'detecting optimal frequencies' doesn't do anything. While this worked with my previous 5900, with this card my frequencies just remain the same after the test. Anyway so those settings failed, and I was using riva tuner. Editx1: I bumped it up to 482/1219 and got 8065 in 3dmark05. My peak temp was 67C, is that normal? It idles at about 45C @DublinGunner: Thanks man, yeah I totally understand that. I've found it very stable now at 330*8, LDT to auto and ram freq to 220mhz. That's 2.64ghz, slightly less than 2.70 but I can't seem to touch that. I ran prime95 for about an hour and it seemed perfect. I've tried 300*9 on my current settings, setting everything else to auto etc. but it's just not stable. I haven't tried raising the voltages beyond what i'm using right now though (1.475 110%, 2.9for dram etc) because i'm worried of what affect it might have on my chips. Last thing I would want is a burn out and i'm not sure of the max volts my hardware can support. I also encountered some retarded problems with my sata drive taking over a minute to boot and getting these horrific BSODs. But I troubleshooted those to the source of their problems : The nforce IDE driver and nvidia firewall. Damn them to hell, lol. Editx2: Also to whoever asked, this is my CPU stepping info: LBBWE 0543EPDW Editx3: I changed my settings a bit. Got it to 295*9 with LDT auto and skew control to 100 with that video overclock of 482/1219 and got a 3dmark05 score of 8103 and a PCmark05 score of 4758. It also takes 33.453 seconds to calculate pi to 1m.
