  1. Good thing that your board is ok. Mine got killed twice by my crappy weak Sirtec 420W PSU, had to RMA the board both times.
  2. yeah, damn chipset fan. I got my ultraD back (brand new) hooked it up to my new fortron blue storm II 500W and fired it up. It worked well after a short cmos reset. Since the board is totally new, the chipset fan is still quiet and it will remain quiet for a short period of time, so i guess i'm happy. I'm glad the Asus board is working out for you, passive cooling on the chipset is the best way to go, if you have a good air flow through your case, passive cooling works great. I'll need to buy some Arctic silver, cause right now, my cpu is with his stock cooling but no thermal paste, the temps are good though but no OC of course.
  3. I'll get my ultra D today, and I'm taking the infinity back to my retailer, it was an ok board, even though it was a little damaged (the IDE controler, I think). It would' ve been something to know what happend to your board because I'm kinda worried that it will happen all over again to my board. Most people said that it was the PSU, my Sirtec 420W, at fault. It seems it gives only 18A on the 12v rail, and that is not enough. Anyway, the Fortron Blue Storm II 500W that I got now, also has 18A on the 12V rail so I'm a little lost... I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best.
  4. I'm almost certain it's the MB. I'm sorry the bios chip change didn't work. I'm still waiting for a new board, I RMA-ed mine a week ago and still nothing. However, I got today a temporary replacement board, it's an infinity nf4 sli. I don't know much about these infinity's, but it seems to work nicely. Much quieter the my ultraD with the busted chipset fan, he, he. This fan on the infinity looks really low tech but it might work a lot better. I also got a new PSU it's a Fortron Blue Storm II 500W, hope it will do the trick with my ultraD so it won't get killed again when I get it back!
  5. So, will there be any hotswaps:cool: ? Satertek, you said that you'll get a new bios chip, the tension's really rising over here.
  6. yeah, ok... I guess everybody knows that over-voltage will kill a board but we were talking about under-voltage or voltage drop or Amps drop or whatever drop. Am I right? The problem with my PSU it seems to be, that it doesn't have the required amps on the 12v rail, like you said, it has only 18A. Will that kill the board? We're talking about the lack of amps, right? Not over-voltage.
  7. You might be right about the PSU, and I will change it to something more powerfull, an antec 500W or something (hope is powerful enough). However it seems strange to me that a weak powersupply would kill a board. I mean, I've heard that it will make a sistem unstable/with cold boot issues/many BSOD/unable to oc, but I've never heard that it would literally kill it.
  8. As far as I know the DFI - NF4UltraD already has Sata 2 enabled, so I'm not sure how would you like to mod that.
  9. I'm really curious to see if the BIOS chip is at fault, same thing happened saturday evening to my board. The difference is, that I didn't do anything to it, no RAM change or anything. It's not the fist time that this happened to me, I purchased my board in 2005, I used it for 1 year and then it died on me. I did the 72 h cmos clear, but no luck, had to RMA the board. I used the new, replaced board for another 6 months and it died, exactly the same way, this saturday. I RMA-ed this board too yesterday, now I'm waiting for a phone call from my retailer to see when the board can be replaced. I'm stuck without a computer now and this really sucks. I'm really fed up with this board, even if I'll get it replaced the second time, it will probably die in a few months, and then it won't have warranty anymore, so I won't be able too keep on replacing it. This really sucks, if a hot swap would do the trick, then that would be somethig, however I'm in Romania and I don't have any idea how to get a new bios chip.
  10. Hi guys, I just wanted to get back with the latest news on the subject. I got my board RMA-ed and it was exchanged with another by my retailer. It's probably not a new board cause it's a little dusty on the chipset fan, but it works. As I got home it, I set it up and it booted right away with no problems whatsoever. So.... finally this prooves that it wasn't a PSU problem, but more likely, a bios corruption due to undervolting. Needless to say, I will not atempt undervolting ever again! It's really a stupid thing to do.
  11. Anyway, I went ahead and RMA the board, my retailer was very relaxed about the thing. Now I'm waiting to see what happens, I'm almost certain now that it's a bios corruption.
  12. The PSU was some random brand, but I still would have expected the board to act a little differently considering that only one stick of RAM was in and a budget video card.
  13. But why would it write data in the bios? I didn't save & exit anything in the bios while in undervolt and sure as hell I didn't flash it!
  14. I'm starting to think that probably the bios got messed up because of the undervolting.
  15. I just tested my rig with a friend's PSU, a 500W one. Nothing changed, still no boot! I tried to boot with one memory stick in the top orange slot, no HD or DVDRW just the graphic card. No luck, still nothing!
