  1. Has anybody had any success getting optical out of the nf2 infinity mobo ? Even if it mean getting a bracket from another supplier I'd be willing to try. Also, I thought the Infinity had s/pdif in and out RCA coax connectors. what are these like compared to the optical. This might be an easier solution. Allen
  2. So what about utilities like RMClock that enable you to use PowerNow on a desktop MB ? I thought the whole idea of PowerNow is that you let the BIOS/OS change the multiplier dynamically depending on the system load. This is what RMClock does, so doesn't that imply that you can have it on a desktop. Would a MB like the AD77 Inifinity would okay with RMClock (since this is a VIA based MB) ? Allen
  3. Has anyone ever come across a nForce2 MB that supports PowerNow. You can use something like RMClock on a VIA motherboard to enable PowerNow. But I wish I could do it on my Ultra Infinity NF2 board. I guess a BIOS update is not enough and something needs to be changed in the Northbridge ? From what I read it has to do with the disconnect bit. Allen
  4. Can someone explain in very simple terms how I set the memory timings. Thanks, Allen
  5. So what memory timings would you suggest from my signature. The memory has heat spreaders, so I can't actually see the chips.
  6. Buckbadly - did you ever get your Z-640's hooked up again? I was looking at getting these speakers, but if they're not going to work with this motherboard I'll try something else. Why don't they work anyway ?
  7. I am currently running at 1800MHz using FSB of 200 MHz and multiplier of 9x. The memory is just set to Optimised. I want to push it a bit further, but I'm not having much luck. At the moment I've managed to get vcore down to 1.3v and this is keeping it nice and cool. I want to try pushing it to 1900 MHz, but I need some advice regarding memory setting and voltages as my attempts so far have failed. Thanks, Allen
  8. I'm coming over to the USA at the end of this month. I want to buy some hardware (Samsung 160GB HD, Thermalright SI-97, etc). I'm going to be in Orlando. Can anyone recommend a store where I could buy these things, or could I get an online seller to ship to my hotel. Thanks for any suggestions, Allen
  9. As you can see from my signature I'm running at 9x200 at the moment with a vcore of 1.325v. I have no CPU fan, just one 80mm SilenX xase fan and PSU fan. Temperatures peak at about 47C, so it does run pretty cool already. I'm just trying out various other methods. Ideally I want to get rid of the case fan too this is th eonly thing you can hear and you have to be right up to the case. This machine has to be really quiet as it's going to be by the TV.
  10. I have an Althon XP-M 2200+ 35w CPU that I got from Newegg.com. I'm trying to use CrystalCPUID to dynamically reduce the multiplier so that I can run a really cool and quiet system (HTPC). However the computer just locks up when I try to apply a change using CrystalCPUID and I reset is required. Is this a problem with the motherboard not supporting dynamic changing of the mutliplier ? Someone here uses the Soltek SL-75MIV2-L with CrystalCPUID to do exactly what I want. Can the NF2 Ultra Inifinity do this as well ? Cheers, Allen
  11. Do you have any idea what the difference in audio quality is like between digital coax and digital optical ? I'm using my board to build a HTPC, so I want good surround sound for the living room, but if coax is good enough, it would be easier to stick with that. Having said that, it would be nice to be able to use the optical since it is on the board. On a slightly different note, what is the best was to get a digital output from a DVD player ?
  12. Would it be possible to use this one http://atacom.com/program/print_html_new.c..._X1&USER_ID=www I know it's for the ASUS board, but the connector looks the same.
  13. I downloaded the manual and it says this: The S/PDIF connector at location J2 is for optical S/PDIF cable connection. Connect the optical audio cable connector of your S/PDIF module to J2. Make sure pin 1 of the audio cable connector is aligned with pin 1 of J2. DO NOT use RCA S/PDIF and optical S/PDIF at the same time. J2 is the connector between slots 3 and 4. Now all we need is the S/PDIF module that is mentioned above.
  14. I had all sorts of problems trying to get win2000 and/or winXP installed. The symptoms were that the installation started, loaded all the drivers and went to start winXP, then the machine would reboot without any errors or warnings. I checked everything I could think of until at last I saw a posing about the BIOS setting. For some reason it was using CHS. Once I changed that to auto everything was fine, but it took me about a week to figure it out !!! Hope it helps. Allen
  15. If you look in the manual there is a connector on the motherboard specifically for digital optical out.
