Bluemagneticstorm Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 When I installed Alcohol in Vista, the install went fine but it does not seem to be able to get the virtual drive installed. It showed an error after the install finished, but it has not come up again. Alcohol opens fine and says there is a drive installed, but on the drive property page it says 0 drives installed, and on the My Computer page no drive is visible. Any ideas about how to work around this problem?
Makaveli Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Try Daemon Tools to see if that works. If the virtual drive works on that and you don't experience any problems, then you know that you'll have to reinstall Alcohol 120% or give the company a call (if it's not a trial version and you purchased it). cchalogamer Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Well you're a step ahead of my experence with RC1 (last version i tried virtual drives on) Back then installing Daemon tools/Alcohol 120/insertvirtualSCSIDVD-ROMmakernamehere would lead to a restart followed by windows being massively screwed. If i remember correctly Microsoft said it was a bug related to the blocking of certian drivers and the added drives being SCSI...i think. Anyway it was a PITA and that's why i stopped using RC2, well that and the massive performance hit plus submitting bug reports in the Beta days to see them STILL in RC2 was a good reason for me to think MS wasn't actually listing to the beta testers...(not just the public ones, but thoes of us who they sent invitations back in the day). [/rant about why I wont buy Vista anytime soon (that doesn't mean never or not in the next few months, but whatever).] You can use my solution, wait for more reply here, or head over to the Alcohol forums --> http://forum.alcohol-soft.com/index.php
WhenKittensATK Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 (edited) I used Dtools works perfectly fine on Vista x86. Never tried Alcohol 120%, maybe bc I'm too cheap to buy it lol. Dtools is FREE!!! Mister_Webmaster Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I second D-Tools.. but I haven't tried it in 64-bit. I have a feeling we might be getting problems in it.
