BlaineBug Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 (edited) Hey, my oldest cousin just got an older computer......Has Windows 98 SE. The Printer uses a USB cable. Doesn't even have a serial cable slot, so that's impossible to do. After installing drivers, Windows wants to use the printer port with the serial cable. How do I change that to use the USB Cable? I don't think Windows 98 SE is liking plug and play........aka, it doesn't do anything when plugging in a USB device. Plus the computer is pretty ancient. Any ideas? Don't suggest upgrading......He's new to computers and it isn't mine. Thanks! Edited November 8, 2006 by ijagwalaafq
hardnrg Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 you should be able to go to Control Panel -> Printers -> (the printer) -> Properties -> Ports -> (check/tick USB) unless somehow it is different in 98se and i forgot how to do it
gotdamojo06 Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 If I remember correctly, windows 98 does not support plug and play? so plug it in doing what hardnrg said and then restart the computer with the printer pluged in before you turn it on and it should work been a long time since i have used windows
thespin Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Does the computer have an integrated USB port ?? I had to buy a PCI slotted USB port for my friends Windows 98 SE computer but the USB ports worked fine after I installed the drivers for it ...
