BabyBalrog Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 I'm looking for a free program that will alow me to transcode some old video files into H.264 so i can save space, or build CD sized collections? Can sombody point me to a free transcoder? I've tried, moonlight videozilla cyberlink AVSvideo and some more PS preferably support mkv files but not is ok
hardnrg Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 gordianknot supports mkv, ogm, and avi... with divx, xvid, and x264 video codecs... i prefer ogm with xvid video and ogg audio for single cd movie conversions... most guides are based on dvd conversions... but you can set the av bitrate rather than have it calculate the bitrate required for a single file to fit on a cd... works really well, i use it for small file conversion too... BabyBalrog Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 i dont mind ogm, but if i send fdiles to friends/family i want them to be able to play it. AVI container is just getting old. not subtitles/multiple audio/codex Edit: where do you select what codex to use? What about size/bitrate? hardnrg Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 avi is a bit annoying... but i don't really use multiple audio streams... i sometimes encode chapters but like, rarely actually use them on playback... with DSVobsub installed, you can rar the subs with the same name as the avi file and the subtitles get played... not so bad really, one video file, one sub file... i like ogm best because the ogg audio format gives amazing results at low bitrates compared to mp3 so that gives more space for video which is always welcome on single dvd-cd conversions
BabyBalrog Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 gordianknot just killed my computer... not really, but it installled new versions of fdshow and others that now i can't play back vidoes, also it can't reconize my audio so crashes evrytime. Do you know if i can install newer versions of the codex? and Gordian knot still work? also what audio does it support? I though these were failry normal audioa, some Vorbis some AAC. EDIT: Can't seams to reinstall my workinf FFDshoww EDIT: ok got that working, but gordianknot still gives me trouble errors and 0 secodn renders. I can get Auto gordianknot to work, but it doens't support using AAC audio codex, any way around this? I can't rip a file that uses AAC. Nor does it support H.
