Windows Xp Problem

Hi i keep having problems with windows XP

 

everytime i try to open my paint pad or my rich text documents or just random files i keep getting this error

 

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mspaint.exe is not a valid Win32 application

 

(when its not mspaint and its say the rich text document ,replace mspaint.exe in the error message)

 

please help
