Epic Games Store Announced

Today Epic Games announced it will be rolling out its own Epic Games Store soon. Initially this store will only offer a hand-curated selection of games for PC and Mac, but will open up to other games as well as other open platforms, including Android. To hopefully bring developers to use the store, Epic will only take 12% of revenue, with the other 88% going to the developers. This apparently beats Steams 30/70 split. It gets better if your game is built on Unreal Engine 4, as then Epic will cover the 5% royalty it has for using its engine.

When someone purchases a game on the Epic Games Store, they will be automatically subscribed to the developer's newsfeed, allowing the developers to reach out to them concerning game updates and news of upcoming releases. If the consumer also chooses to share it, the developers can reach out over email as well. The Epic Games Supper-A-Creator program, meant to help developers and content creators get in touch, is also something developers will be able to take advantage of, allowing them to give revenue sharing links or code to the creators. For the first 24 months, Epic will cover the first 5% of this revenue sharing. Additionally, developers will get to control their game pages and news feeds, so there will be no store-placed ads or cross-marketing of competing games, and no paid ads in search results.

We can expect to learn more about upcoming game releases on December 6, at The Game Awards.
