Samsung Announces First UFS Flash Cards

Recommended Posts

Samsung has announced its first flash cards based on the Universal Flash Storage 1.0 Card Extension standard, a standard that offers a significant speed improvement over micro-SD. Samsung claims that the new cards will be able to transfer a 5GB file in about 10 seconds while micro-SD takes about 50 seconds for the same amount of data. The UFS standard could see wide adoption in the future due to the increased speed and increased amount of data due to HD media, but it is not currently able to match the capacity of micro-SD cards. Samsung will release cards with capacities between 32GB and 256GB while micro-SD can reach 512GB. Another bump in the road for UFS adoption is the fact that current devices do not have the proper ports to accommodate the new cards.
