Do they make non-polarized to polarized adapters?

see how the right side is bigger?

none of my regular plugs will fit inside

there is some sort of safety mechanism

AC isn't polarized, so technically you can plug it in any way you want and it'll probably function.

That said, DO NOT DO THIS unless you absolutely know what you're doing.  Most things with a polarized plug are designed so that the neutral is what you'll come into contact with (light sockets, anything with a real power switch, etc).  Neutral won't shock you...a hot will.

So yes, you can probably make the device work, but it's very possible you'll create something dangerous doing so.

The reason the device has a polarized plug is, a lot of new electronics uses AC to provide sufficient power to the device. The voltage is then, stepped down and rectified to DC. This is done to protect the equipment. Nuetrals, with a load, can certainly give you a shock. If you have Receptacles that are the older type with no ground, and not polarized, I suggest that you have them changed to GFCI Receptacles. This will protect you and your family, as well as allow you to plug your device in using correct polarity.
