bp9801 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Some time has passed since the last NVIDIA Pascal rumor, so that means things are right for a new one, and this is a rather large rumor. Apparently, the consumer flagship Pascal video card, the GeForce GTX 1080, will launch on May 27, 2016, and include the full GP104 core. Pascal uses the 16nm FinFET process, and will feature both consumer and enterprise variants in the form of GeForce, Quadro, and Tesla cards. The Quadro and Tesla cards will have the GP100 core, with GeForce getting the GP104. Now, this is where things get a little different compared to past rumors, as the GP100 cards are expected to have up to 32GB of HBM2 memory, while the GP104 cards will have up to 8GB of GDDR5 or GDDR5X, once that arrives from Micron. The naming scheme of GTX 1080 or 1070 is also up in the air, as NVIDIA hasn't stated one way or the other what these cards will be called and GTX 1080 is just something added by the rumor creator. The GP104 cards are expected to compete with AMD's current Fury cards and upcoming mid-range Polaris cards, while a consumer version of the GP100 (a Titan) will compete against the high-end Polaris. The new Titan will have up to 16GB of HBM2, with all NVIDIA cards featuring HBM2 from Samsung, while AMD has HBM2 from SK Hynix. Pascal cards are expected to need just a single 8-pin PCIe power connector, yet deliver twice the performance per watt of current Maxwell cards. Remember, everything so far is just rumor, so the memory, the name, and even the launch date are all to be taken with a grain of salt. We should know something definitive when the GPU Technology Conference kicks off at the start of April. Maybe we'll hear something from GDC next week, but I would think GTC or even Computex 2016 are the likely spots.
