Bethesda teased its DLC plans for Fallout 4 last week on Twitter, and has now revealed the details on its first three items. The first DLC is Automatron, where a mysterious (and evil) Mechanist has unleashed a horde of robots into the Commonwealth. One of these robots is the Robobrain, which sounds like it's gotten a boost since we last saw it, as Bethesda calls it "devious." It's up to you to hunt down and destroy these robots, then use their parts to build your very own robot companion! Hundreds of mods, a mix of limbs, armor, abilities, and weapons can all customize your robot, including a new lightning chain gun weapon. You can also customize your robot's paint scheme and voice, giving you full freedom over what they look and sound like.

The next DLC is called the Wasteland Workshop, which lets you design and set cages in order to capture living things. Raiders, muties, and even deathclaws can be captured in these cages, where you can then tame them or have them face off in battle. You can even unleash them on your settlers, so if that one particular settlement keeps sending you to deal with a threat halfway across the map, maybe a deathclaw will change their tune. Wasteland Workshop also adds new items for your settlements, such as nixie tube lighting, taxidermy, letter kits, and more.

The third and final DLC item unveiled today is called Far Harbor, and it sounds like Bethesda's biggest and most ambitious DLC to date. A new case from Valentine's Detective Agency takes you off to Maine in search of a young woman and a secret synth colony. You arrive just off the coast of Maine on the island of Far Harbor, where the radiation levels are, sadly, higher, giving rise to a much more feral landscape. There's also growing conflict between the colony of synths, the Children of Atom, and the local townsfolk to contend with, and whether you help them coexist peacefully or not. According to Bethesda, Far Harbor features the largest landmass it's ever created for a DLC, filled with new faction quests, settlements, dungeons, monsters, and higher level weapons and armor to outfit your character with.

These three pieces of DLC are just the beginning for what Bethesda has in store for Fallout 4, although details on that will have to wait until later in 2016. The DLC arrives pretty soon, too, with Automatron in March for $9.99, Wasteland Workshop in April for $4.99, and Far Harbor in May for $24.99. These three and the future DLC are all included in the Season Pass for $29.99, however the price jumps to $49.99 starting March 1. If you've already bought the Season Pass, no problem, but if you want it for the discounted price, you better act fast. Bethesda is offering a beta program to test out each DLC to registered Bethesda.net members, and if you're chosen then you get to keep the DLC for free. The studio is also hard at work on the Creation Kit and a complete overhaul to Survival Mode, with information hopefully on the way soon for when we can get our hands on them.

I miss real expansion packs. You know, the ones that cost $30-$40 and massively expanded the game world in new ways.

This trend of DLC that adds up to more than the original game cost (sometimes by a factor of 3 or more) annoys me to the point where I simply buy none of it.
