bp9801 Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Earlier today, some potentially unsettling news came out from CD Projekt RED, developer of the stellar The Witcher series and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. According to this rumor from an apparent CDP employee, representatives from EA were talking to the higher ups at CDP about either a publishing deal or an outright acquisition. The publishing deal may be the better of the two options, even if Cyberpunk 2077 isn't expected until 2017 or so, but the acquisition rumor is unsettling. EA does not have the greatest track record when it comes to acquiring game developers, as many view the resulting products as cash grabs before the studio ultimately is shut down. Now, the one interesting thing to kind of disprove an EA acquisition is that CDP's Marcin Momot stated founder Marcin Iwinski classified a buyout meeting as "new to him." Hopefully this acquisition rumor is just the imaginiations of an employee for something much more mundane. Maybe a meeting was for adding more/older EA titles to GOG or even licensing REDengine 3 to use in a future game instead of Frostbite 3. Until something definitive comes out one way or the other, take the rumor with a hefty dose of salt. After all, CD Projekt RED has been doing just fine on its own.
