The move to purchase AOL comes at a time when Verizon is looking to expand its offerings surrounding the Internet of Things. Verizon will likely benefit from the digital and video experience that AOL has, as the company has successfully generated millions in digital advertising revenue while also supporting large and exciting media brands such as Engadget, TechCrunch, and The Huffington Post. Lowell McAdam, the Chairman and CEO of Verizon, noted that "AOL has once again become a digital trailblazer, and we are excited at the prospect of charting a new course together in the digitally connected world."
