Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft, one of the most popular massively multiplayer online games available, has lost 2.9 million subscribers for the quarter that ended March 31, 2015, according to publisher Activision Blizzard. At the end of 2014, the game had 10 million paying users, and the loss of 2.9 million subscribers represents a 29 percent decline in just three months. Despite this, Activision Blizzard has noted that World of Warcraft is still the most popular subscription-based MMO in the entire world. Additionally, the publishing company was able to offset the loss of its subscriber base through price increases in select regions as well as purchases of value added service.
