GoPro has revealed in its first quarter earnings results that it has acquired Kolor, a French software maker that specializes in meshing together photos and videos into interactive content. GoPro currently thrives on sales from adventure and sports enthusiasts who purchase the cameras for skiing, racing, skydiving, surfing, and more, but is looking to branch out into different markets. By acquiring Kolor, GoPro hopes to make content that is incredibly immersive, especially when seen with a virtual reality headset. Nicholas Woodman, the GoPro CEO, stated that "GoPro's capture devices and Kolor's software will combine to deliver exciting and highly accessible solutions for capturing, creating and sharing spherical content." GoPro does face fierce competition in this arena, however, as Google and Facebook have already proven their support for virtual reality content.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed by either GoPro or Kolor.
