NikoDG Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Hello, I'm looking to buy a new monitor to push my CF R9 290's. I'm thinking I want to get a 2560x1440 (or 2560x1600) IPS, but I've never owned a monitor over 1080p so I'm not entirely sure what I should be looking at when it comes to gaming performance. I don't play any hardcore FPS games online, so I can accept a little ghosting (though I'd prefer not to). Does anyone have any suggestions? Or are those displays not really suited to gaming? Would I be better off getting a 120Hz monitor instead? Thanks, Niko Edited November 7, 2013 by NikoDG
kmmbd Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 If you really want to go 1440p, you can try Dell's UltraSharp series. They're one of the best there in the market. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&sku=225-4015&redirect=1 However, if you play a lot of FPS (esp COD multiplayer, CS:GO, BF4 online etc) then you're better off with a 120/144 Hz 1080p display, as it will greatly reduce motion blur. Asus' VG248QE is undoubtedly the best gaming monitor out there, so give it a shot IMO. http://www.asus.com/Monitors_Projectors/VG248QE/
NikoDG Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) I'm not heavy into FPS games. I do love Bioshock: Infinite, and Borderlands 2, but I'm much more interested in color quality and contrast than refresh rate as I really want to get the most out of my extremely heavily modded Skyrim. I read that that Asus monitor suffers from a lot of color wash out. I am willing to go with the prison bars if it's my only viable option. I know that right now the only true 4K display by Asus has a lot of issues as it's actually two displays next to each other in a single monitor. Not to mention it being crazy expensive. A 2440x1600 IPS I hear suffers from some ghosting, and is still a fairly high price. I could probably buy 3x 1920x1080 monitors and set them up in a surround. I could probably get all three for the price of a single 2440x1600 IPS. In which case the three most important things for me are in this order: 1) Good color quality 2) A very small bezel 3) As little ghosting as possible Looking at possibly getting three of these http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236331 and setting them up for a nice 5760x1200 resolution. Any thoughts? Edited November 6, 2013 by NikoDG
Coors Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I love my 30" 2560x1600 monitor. No ghosting problems. And so much room for activities!
