John_again Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Hello again! I'm trying to overclock my friends PC but i think the memory is what makes it stop my overclock... Lets see... CPU: intel core 2 duo E6600 @ 2.40Ghz CPU Cooling: Xigmatek Gaia SD1283 Heatpipe Cooler 120mm Graphics Card: Sapphire HD 6790 1GB (840Mhz/1050Mhz) Motherboard Gigabyte: G41MT D3V (s775, DDR3, VGA) Memory: Corsair 4GB DDR3-1333 Ram Kit PSU: CoolerMaster GX Series 650W Case: CoolerMaster Storm Scout Midi Tower Black Ok, i only managed to get it to 3.00Ghz My temps are really low, max at 25~C and idle 15~C But something is stopping me! I tried to raise the CPU voltages, but it wont boot! I also lowered the memory mhz to 800 and timings 5-5-5-15. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance. These are my current settings. http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2247363
wevsspot Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 John, welcome to the OCC forums. There are a huge number of OC guides for general overclocking and even specifically on overclocking the socket 775 platform. The best place to start is a Google search, but I'll point you to a general overclocking guide right here at OCC; http://forums.overclockersclub.com/index.php?showtopic=188454 I refer you to these resources because it's important that you understand and learn the general basics of overclocking (especially on socket 775) because there are several quirks on this platform that can inhibit your end overclocking success. One such quirk is understanding memory dividers and memory straps. Very important on this platform! The seven most basic steps in overclocking on the 775 platform; Adequate cooling Good power supply Reasonable component voltages Isolating maximum bus frequency from cpu and memory speed Isolating maximum cpu frequency from bus and memory speed Isolating maximum memory frequency from bus and cpu speed Understanding memory straps and memory dividers Once you feel like you've got a good handle on the methodology for overclocking the 775 platform, post back here and show us all of your BIOS settings from the M.I.T. section of your motherboard. Here is another resource for you - OCC's Socket 775 OC Competition Thread; http://forums.overclockersclub.com/index.php?showtopic=66496
