TIM cure time

With some advice from others on here I swapped out my Cooler Master Hyper N520 with a H70 I was able to obtain from someone who realized it wouldn't fit in their case after the fact. It's been on for about an hour now and I have not noticed any real difference in temps as far as my system just sitting here. I used Silver 5 in the 1 IN line method that they recommend and I used with the N520, but the slight twist needed to install the block probably smeared it a bit. Arctic states "200 hours and several thermal cycles to achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and for the heatsink to CPU interface to reach maximum conductivity". How much does this play into the temps I will have now as opposed to one it reaches cure time??

It really depends between all CPU's and thermal interface material. with AS5 yes it has an extraordinarily long break in period, It should drop at least 2c if anything at all in ther time. Most newer TIMS do not BUT that does not mean they will need time to seat in a little better. What I would do if I was you is see what load temps are and compair. My CPU with my Hyper 212 mounted at 3.60 Ghz Idles the same as with my Megahelems configuration. Its load that is the difference. What is the load temperature and where is the system overclocked if at all?? And also have you tried remounting it using a different method?

I didn't want to full load test it yet mainly because I wasn't sure if that was a good idea having just mounted it, as well as the prior one was on there for a few months before I even got the H70. I was going to give it a week or so and see what the load temps were, but just playing around in Dead Island the max temps do seem to be about 3-5 deg lower just off that. One thing to I thought of was I have 2 EVGA GTX460 External Exhaust which are going to vent right below where the intake is being that I mounted the H70 the way they recommend, intake from the outside and exhaust inside and then my 200mm top mount can pull out that heat. This is still probably better than pulling from the inside as it will get a lot hotter there, but for now I'm going to move my case away from the wall a few more inches and hope this helps. Will do load test tomorrow after it has sat for 24hrs and see what happens. (Pic is where I was at on air, left being 3Dmark11 and the right gaming for a few hours)

I would turn the Fan around on the H70. Im not a fan of pulling air in from the top of the case to create an air mixing effect. If that is worth 20 degrees cooler to have it tuned in then yes I would do it but I doubt that it is. Plus the heat coming from those 460's is likely More concentrated behind them in the back of the case.

 

Just for grins try it both ways after you load test it.

I would turn the Fan around on the H70. Im not a fan of pulling air in from the top of the case to create an air mixing effect. If that is worth 20 degrees cooler to have it tuned in then yes I would do it but I doubt that it is. Plus the heat coming from those 460's is likely More concentrated behind them in the back of the case.

The fan on the top is venting out, the 2 fans on the H70 are the ones pulling in from where there is usually an exhaust on the back of the case. Its a HAF 922 with intake on Front, Side and now rear, with the top pulling everything out. I put the 120 that was on the back side on the small vent on the bottom so there is probably a lot of positive pressure pushing air through the case and out the top.
