Can't read temps

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the cpu or overclocking forums, but I'm having a slight problem with monitoring my cpu temps.

My new pc is in my signature. I bought a Phenom II X3 740 AM3 for my new cpu. After setting everything up, testing the DDR3 (passed with flying colors), I decided to unlock the 4th core.

Before unlocking the 4th core Core Temp and Hardware Monitor 1.17 reported the cpu temps on all 3 cpu cores. After unlocking the 4th core Core Temp says that it doesn't support the cpu (it displays as a Phenom II X4 40 on boot and in CPUID) and Hardware Monitor 1.17 shows all cpu core temps as 0C (32F).

I'm trying to stress test my cpu to find out of the 4th core is stable, I guess I still can, but just wont be able to determine what the max temp is.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks for the heads up, I was driving myself crazy trying to figure this out.

Guess it's on to the stress testing the 4th core, then overclocking.

I wouldn't do that if I can't monitor my temps. What you could do is get a infrared thermometer and measure the temps that way. Won't be permanent, but at least you'll know if it's safe to overclock or not.
