Newb needs help

System specs:

MSI790XT-G45 cannot up voltage i know this already

AMD Phenom 2 X4 Denab 3.4 Black Edition

PNY GTX 460

8Gb DDR2 PNY 800 Mhz ram

Antec 650 Earth watts PSU

Corsair A70 CPU cooler

 

I am on a tight budget so i bought the mobo and cpu hoping to get a good boost in performance. Which from a Anthlon 2 X4 2.6 and a factory HP board i did. So now at this present juncture with no cash cause of Xmas and just generally dont wont to go any farther than what i am i need help overclocking. I have printed out a standard guide but it all depends on upping voltage, i have all the tools and some knowledge. i know to disable CNQ and Speed spectrum, but from their i have no clue. I have raised FSB to 240 to 4.0 and its unstable. I can get to 3.7 stable but im thinking my memory timings might be holding me back? I need some knowledge/help. Thank you.

Without voltage control you'll be quite limited. My CPU overclocks from 3.1Ghz to 3.6Ghz without any adjustments but I'm not sure if yours is the same.

 

What you want to do first is to start using the Multiplier since Black Edition processors have it unlocked which is pretty neat. The FSB will overclock not only the CPU but a whole bunch of other stuff that you might need to have overclocked at the beginning so what you'll need to do is find them, and underclock them so that they reach the stock values while the CPU stays at it's overclocked value. This is long and unnecessary so that's why the multiplier is the better choice.

 

Since you can't change the voltage, using the multiplier will show you instant results. All you do is increase it by x1 after each increase you run a stress test like OCCT or Prime95 for about 20 minutes. At the final overclock you test for 12 hours.

Thanks bro, i got it to 3.8 Stable multiplier to 19. I tried 19.5 and 20 and it would boot into windows then restart. So now i get the full monty about voltage lol. And also independent adjustments for maximum ocing. Thank you
