First time trying to OC. Need help. E6600

Hi,

This is my first time overclocking and I'm just wondering if someone could check and see if I've input the right figures. As I'm on a tight budget at the moment, I thought I'd try to squeeze some more life out of my current rig but I think I may have done something wrong because on the loading screen and on CPU-Z, it still shows 2.4Ghz (266x9).

My CPU cooler is stock as I'm unable to get an after market cooler to fit onto my motherboard.

My gears are:

CPU : E6600 2.4Ghz

Motherboard : Gigabyte GA965P-DQ6 rev 3.3

Case : Cooler Master Stacker 831

PSU : Silverstone Strider ST85F 850W

Case Fans : 2 additional - Noctua NF-S12-1200 120mm fans

RAM : Kingston HyperX with heat sink 4Gb 1066 DDR2 kit

- Timing: 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2v-2.3v

HDD : WD SATA2 1Tb + WD SATA2 500Gb

Graphics Card : Winfast Leadtek 8800GTS - 512Mb

The settings in the Bios are set to :

[ADVANCED BIOS FEATURES]

Limit CPUID Max to 3...........................Disabled

No-Execute Memory Protection.............Disabled

CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E).....................Disabled

CPU Thermal Monitor 2C (TM2)..............Disabled

TAT 100% Workload after 30mins.

Core #2 30ºC >>>> 54ºC

Prime95 test shows no errors.

Did I do everything right? And if I did, where do I find the new Ghz?

I know overclocking on stock cooler is not a good idea but I don't know a way to fit an after market on this board and I don't really want to get rid of the build in heat sink. If anyone has any ideas it would be welcomed.

I'm aiming to try to get this CPU to 3.33Ghz. At the moment its suppose to be 3.24Ghz but I can't see where is it showing that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Core Speed" on CPU-Z is where you'll see your current speed.

I have a feeling that you had an over-zealous overclock and your motherboard reset to default (it happens to me occasionally.)

Ok, I'll reset to default and try again. Are the other settings right? Should "Init Display First" be PCI ? I'm trying to do this after reading several guides and getting utterly confused.
